how did u connect your pc to the ibus? is there a commercially available wire? or did u make one, if so schemics
im gettin a new mini cooper on nov 5th, id imagine it uses the Ibus.
thanks in advance
Yes, MINI uses I-Bus as well as the BMW designed Land Rovers/Range Rovers. Schematics and more details are available in the "HackTheIbus" Yahoo group. I made up several PCB's for the "Improved simple I-Bus interface" that I can sell you for $10. All the parts you'd need to build an interface from that are available at radioshack for about another $10. The only problem with that circuit is that you can't write to the I-Bus but in the MINI that should not be a problem since there isn't the same kind of OBC display as in the BMW cars -- you'd only really need writing to the I-Bus in a MINI with the navigation system.
cool, ill pm you when i get home, im in the uk but it shouldnt be a problem to ship?
Nearly all MINIs have a 5 or 8 character LCD, which MINI does call an OBC. I'm not sure if you can write generic data to it. Mine shows temp, miles til I run out of gas, avg gas mileage, and average speed. The 2004s also show current speed.Originally Posted by gork
I'm also interested in a PCB anyway though. How do you want me to pay? Paypal?
Hmm... My roommate's 2004 MINI Cooper S gets here tomorrow so we'll get hacking into it fairly soon. I will try to see about that display.. You can't even write to the OBC display on the E46 (my car and 3 series), so I am doubtful that the MINI will be different, but we will see...
There is a way to do software bus contention detection, so you could in theory write messages to the bus with the simple circut. In practice, though, i's better to use a better chip anyway, so I don't think anyone is doing it...
mutilator: no, shipping won't be a problem. I'll have to see how much it costs.
Twostep: yeah paypal is fine. 10 bucks should cover the board and shipping fine. I'll get a couple of em drilled for you guys in the next day or two.. paypal to firstname.lastname@example.org
ok, ill paypal u 10$? or do you want to check on shipping to the uk first?
