I am using a 150w Opus internally. It fits perfectly above the harddrive.

How do you like the PXA-H700? Are you using a center channel, or the Bi-Phantom mode?

The H700 is just about perfect for Carputer use. It has digital inputs (no signal lose) and all kinds of control to adjust crossover and eq settings. And it also gives you a real volume knob. I am not using a center channel. I really don't watch movies in my car so I didn't see the real point in adding one. I have my speakers in the kick panels and it works out that the sound stage is pretty centered in the dash. Also the H700 has time alignment for all the channels. So you can really fine tune it to get the stage and sound you wan't. Any other questions just ask.

Here are some more pictures. One is of the inside of the XPC. You can see the Opus and the little box on top of the CPU fan is the digital coax to toslink converter. The others are other apps and another of the outside of the XPC with a 54g access point on top.

    - With regards to the H-700, I am also looking into using this for my input, instead of the HU that I have now (alpine 7998). I too would like to use the digital input. Are you running optical from comp -> 700, or what type of digital audio?? I would like to run optical the whole time.
What about fm/am/xm?? Is it maybe worth having a hu still along side the 700, as space shouldn't be too much of a problem; the 700 is a hide-away with a control panel? I would maybe get a 9815 or something along those lines!?!

What are your thoughts?? I would rather not lose fm/AM (talk radio!!) and possibly add XM!!

    Let me know

The Audigy car has a digital coax output which is converted to digital a digital optical by a converter box in the computer.

Yes it is a hideaway unit with a control panel.

As far as radio, Griffin (powermate people) are coming out with a usb radio that looks like it should work pretty good for car use with a little modification. And as far as XM I am thinking about getting a XM PCR with the digital output since the H700 has three digital inputs.

Now if you already have an alpine head unit that is compatible and have the room for it, I would just keep it and hide away the H700 control panel.

well, I have a Alpine 7998 now, however, I can swap that out for the h700, considering they are the same price. I was just thinking adding a less of a head unit then AFTER that (Alpine 9815). there are sound cards that have digital output though, right. I thought even some motherboards have a SPDIF out with optical, as an add on external slot. I am not looking at an ITX, i think a Flex or Micro instead (more options) (definately looking into a second video card to supplement the onboard - multi display!! )
Does anyone else know of a computer version radio that has AM!! - or FM/AM that will use an external antenna (oem antenna.......??)
If not, then i will use the hu for that in addition.

BTW, for the XM PCR with optical out, is this a better sound option, or better user interface than the one from Alpine for their Head Units??? ANyone know???? This is a HUGE decision maker for me. I hear so many mixed reviews of the PCR.......................

    Let me know, and thanks
