Talking VIA MB w/ TFT LCD Car PC Ver4

    Greetings,

I have been making car PCs for about 3 years now and I just finished my fourth version. You can check it out on my website at http://www.basten.us

    Version 4 includes:
    -VIA EPIA M
    -11"x4"x7" case
    -TFT LCD 6" display
    -X10 MouseREMOTE
    -GPS
-and on and on and on ...

I also wrote a custom mp3 player software for my carPC/livingroomPC which can be found at http://www.bastenengineering.com.

    Cheers

Thanks for the post. I would like to hear what you think about the software. I was just going to post it for free but I didn't want people requesting bug fixes that I don't have time for. If I charge then I can at least get a little money for my time in supporting the software. OR I can release it AS IS! (if anyone is interested) Post what you think ... does it suck or is it useful?

Some differences ... Media Engine is cool but I don't like the whole database thing. I also think it is important to perform functions with the least amount of keystrokes as posible.
    Cheers,
    Pat

I like the brief case idea, you could easilt move it around any where. I like. very practical.

    Nice, setup I like it

    I just noticed this:

Connected ignition power to the COM port so when the ignition is turned off a custom software would see this on the COM port and shutdown the PC

Could you tell me how this works as I might be interested.

    Thanks

    ahpesis,

Sorry for the slow reply. There are two ways to do this:

One way is to use the software default program loaded on Windows (I know this is true for XP don't know about other versions). Then you connect 12V to a particular pin on the COM Port. When the ignition is off the PC shuts down.

The second is using my software. I wanted to control more parameters than Window has to offer so I wrote a little VB software that basically looks a Pin on the COM port and shuts down the PC if ignition is turned off. It is also set to delay 10sec so if you’re switching to running to accessories it will not shut down the PC.

Using this method ties up one com port but with my software I didn’t use TX or RX therefore I can still use the com port for other functions if I want. I was hoping to use that same COM port for other stuff like engine monitor and such but add the functionality to my MediaJukebox software. So in a since I still have the COM port available for custom applications.

If you’re interested in more details email or post a reply then when I get home from my travel I will post more schematics and links explaining it in detail.

    Cheers,

Well the holidays are over so I am back at home but now I will be going out of town. I will post more details on my shutdown program on my website when I get back. Sorry for the delay but the holiday season is a busy time.
