BMW E46 Custom dash trim for a Xenarc LCD

I stumbled across your website a long time ago maybe 2 years ago, I think your old screen was like a pioneer w/ the infrared port exposed playing Matrix as well as your trunk sub box. Impressive work! Cant wait to see the whole install.

Thank you. I ordered my LCD from Armen. I'm almost done planning the PC I'm going to build. It's gonna be a Micro-ATX motherboard with a Celeron because I need more room for upgrading than the itx motherboards have to offer.

how you get that orange peel effect?

Are we saying that you made this from scratch ?

I used my original LCD trim that I made almost 2 years ago as a start. That one was made practically from scratch. Here's a pic of it.

That just came out that way from the SEM paint I used. I could have sanded it smoother but it matches the oem finish pretty well.

couple of questions:

1. can you talk about what grits of sand paper you use for the fiberglass (if you use any) and bondo to get such a nice finish?

2. where did you purchase your paint? is it interior paint?

3. i'm assuming you had primer, a base color, some texture paint, and a finishing paint?

These are the first two LCDs I had in this car (Before Pics) and the reason why I made my first LCD trim. I absolutely hated the obvious non-oem look and how it covered my vents. It just stuck out like a sore thumb.

1. 80, 220, 400. There are other fillers that are much better than Bondo.

2. Check out http://www.finishmaster.com/locations.html for the nearest auto body supply store. This is where i got my stuff. If your using your current dash and molding the LCD into it, ask them for a plastic repair putty. They also carry a wide selection of fillers, paints and whatnot.

3. I used SEM paints. http://www.semproducts.com I didn't use texture paint because my interier isn't that textured, but you can.
