New location for head unit
Well I have tried going headunit less and it just doesnt work for me. Radio Xtreme is decent for listening to stations but there is still a dull whine that I cant seem to get rid of. Ground loop isolator didnt help.
There are times when I just jump in the car and make a bunch of quick stops. I dont think its good for the PC to reboot so many times in one day. I went ahead and remounted my headunit under my back seat. I can easily reach it from the drivers seat to adjust volume and stations (without looking of course) ;)
If you have an Explorer Sport Trac and want to do this make sure you mount it to the seat and not the floor. The rear seats come down when you try to access the storage compartments and having it on the floor gets in the way.

I tried extending the faceplate on my alpine but it just ended up causing the lights on the faceplate to blink. I am not sure why though because I used a meter and there were no shorts. Might be distance limited. Oh well this works fine for me.

Pictures of screen mounting.
Nice job on keeping your screen mounting simple. After seening your post I want to mount my sreen in the same place. I am interested in what you used to mount the screen on the double din bezzle.
Thanks.
