nice job. i know that when i do mine i will probably mold my alpine into the center console
Well I have tried going headunit less and it just doesnt work for me. Radio Xtreme is decent for listening to stations but there is still a dull whine that I cant seem to get rid of. Ground loop isolator didnt help.
There are times when I just jump in the car and make a bunch of quick stops. I dont think its good for the PC to reboot so many times in one day. I went ahead and remounted my headunit under my back seat. I can easily reach it from the drivers seat to adjust volume and stations (without looking of course)![]()
If you have an Explorer Sport Trac and want to do this make sure you mount it to the seat and not the floor. The rear seats come down when you try to access the storage compartments and having it on the floor gets in the way.

I tried extending the faceplate on my alpine but it just ended up causing the lights on the faceplate to blink. I am not sure why though because I used a meter and there were no shorts. Might be distance limited. Oh well this works fine for me.

I would have but as you can see there is no room for a head unit behind the console. There is just not enough depth:Originally Posted by TheForce02

i guess that i have a little more room in there do to the fact that i don't have all that stuff already. the biggest diff. is that because mine is in a ranger i removed the ducting.
wkolodny: Its Ed from the sport trac forum. Was wondering about the OBD system. I thought I read somehwere u were having problems with the thing reading the fuel system? Can you pick up exactly how much fuel you have or some type of instant MPG? what all can you get about the fuel system?
where did you run the wires through to the headunit? Im about to start wiring my sport in the next few days
Hey Ed the OBD software I have doesnt measure fuel usage. A member from the sport trac site provided this explanation of what it does measure: My 2001 Sport Trac InstallOriginally Posted by masher

All the wires go under the carpet and through the bottom of the console:Originally Posted by Bob0_o

Nice job on keeping your screen mounting simple. After seening your post I want to mount my sreen in the same place. I am interested in what you used to mount the screen on the double din bezzle.
Thanks.
Oh you might be interested in the USB XM Satellite Radio Reciever. I picked one up for $49. I havent activated it yet, but it should be great.
