car computer rev 5: 8" lilliput and usual suspects
I completely forgot to mention that I also installed a Radioman FM/AM serial unit. Instead of running a serial cable all the way up front, I used a USB to serial adapter. This lets me mount the Radioman in the dash, behind the screen, conveniently next to where the factory antenna wire(s) are. Reception isn't the greatest but is adequate. The only real issue I have is that none of the major front-end support AM.![]()
hey rando -
you have probably already thought of this since you are a smart guy - but make sure the relay supports the amount of amperage your opus 150 pulls @ inrush. All the 12VDC relays ive seen (granted, the cheap ones), support like 10 amps. I would think your opus pulls more than that, but i could be wrong. Just a thought.
Otherwise nice setup! (I like your IDE cable)
I think I used a 15A or 30A relay. I'm not sure about the inrush current but for sure the sustained current isn't anywhere near 10A. In any case, I plan to rethink the relay concept. I've noticed on more than one occasion that the computer failed to turn on when it should have. Perhaps (as others have suggested) the Opus start-up circuitry doesn't like seeing ACC go high before the +12V does. I might move the relay over to switch the +5vsb line (same triggers as before) since that (should be) the only thing getting power when the computer is off.
I bought a few more goodies this weekend for the truck.
1) Another 4 port USB hub - needed for stuff below.
2) 9in1 USB card reader with 3port USB hub - will provide external expansion capabilities from center storage console.
3) Griffin iMic - provide another mic input since the Audigy 2 NX cannot do line-in and mic concurrently (LAME!)
4) DLink 802.11b USB dongle - hook up to home lan when in garage. Maybe a little wardriving too.![]()
Looking great! Very professional!

I played a bit more with the Opus. I took the relay off the +12v line and moved it over to the +5vsb line (still switched by +12v output or ACC). This caused the Opus and computer to immediately begin power cycling; on then off then on then off. I detached the relay and just hooked the Opus up with the +5vsb line disconnected. This produced the same behavior. As best I can tell, the M10000 is pulling PS_ON low when it doesn't get +5vsby. Apparently this is enough to cause the Opus to turn on regardless of if ACC is low or high. I wonder if this is something that Kris can reprogram? I cannot think of a scenario where the Opus should turn on (from an off state) when ACC is low. Maybe this is a feature of some sort?
To resolve this problem, I added another relay to the PS_ON signal. Everything appears to be working normally again. I'll test it for a few days to see if it still randomly fails to start-up when it should.

Do you have the TOYOTA skin for mediacar??![]()
dude thats awesome, very clean, VERY well thought out, love the use of the factory radio brackets!
I don't use MC anymore. IIRC, it wasn't a skin, just a logo icon. There is a link around these forums somehwere that has logos for pretty much every brand of vehicle. Try the search button. If you can't find it, send me a PM and I'll dig it up for you.Originally Posted by DjBac
