heh, the new 4-runner dash isn't an easy one to get into. i'm gonna describe it as best as i can, from memory, and will take off lots of parts to prevent cracking or scratching anything.
first off, pull off the dead pedal (left foot rest). it just snaps on. behind this will be the plastic nut for the driver kick panel. this also just snaps on. you may need to unsnap the scuff plate at the bottom of the door (next to the seat) to remove the kick panel. now there are a couple 10mm and phillips screws/bolts in the lower dash panel below the steering column. remove all these, then gently unsnap the dash panel. you may want to disconnect the fuel door and hood release cables before unscrewing the panel so that you can completely remove it from the car. now open your center console lid and start unsnapping the trim that goes around the shifter and includes the cup holders. also give the clock climate control display a good tug and it will pop right out. you may need to use a plastic pry tool to get the clock display out. now you should be able to see all the screws (i think there are 3 or 5 - it's been a while since i've done a 4-runner) to remove the vertical pieces to either side of the radio and ac controls. it comes out as one huge piece. and yes, it's a royal pain!
in case you're wondering, i'm a mechanic at a toyota dealership. i have to tear dashboards apart to install things like head units, alarms, dvd players, and the like... on a regular basis. chances are, if it's been in a toyota showroom in the last 2-3 years (or the same body style has been) i can tell you how to take the dashboard apart... among other things. ;)
