    LCD Pannel wire

    Good Job!

How did you wired the LCD monitor wire off of the laptop?

I tried with my old P-133 Toshiba laptop, could not get it to work. I extended the wire, but no signal came from the laptop to LCD.

Did you have to buy a special wire for it?

Do you have to put shielding on it?

    Thanks!

Hey, the secret is to keep the inverter close to the LCD.
Check out this thread, there are pics of my LCD extension that might help a bit:
    Inspiron 2500 LCD

I also had the same problem, where there was no signal. At least that's what it looked like. It turned out that the cable between the inverter and LCD was supposed to be short otherwise the backlight was way underpowered. I guess that's the most common problem when extending laptop LCDs.

BTW, today I got a CD-ROM drive, but I think I ran out of space to install it in the car
I even extended it (30 + something wires) but now I don't know where to put it!!

PS: Hey, I think my LCD is actually a 12.1"! Bump.

Thanks a bunch! I really didn't expect any nice replies, especially after I saw all those pro factory-looking setups with touchscreens and such. Well, even if you don't mean it - thanks

    It's a good first system.
My first one was very like like that, but based on faster hardware so i could do GPS stuff. I didn't even have a VGA quailty screen. Just a PS2 addon STN screeen that looked bad.

Now I don't even have a system at all, as I managed to blow up the 10.4" VGA panel I installed. I bought a replacement controller, but can't seem to get it function as it should.

So i have a box of bits less a screen.

    Thanks
Actually this thing can run most GPS software (like Destinator) even in 3D, although probably not while playing music at the same time. The reason I don't do it is because I already have a Pocket PC with TomTom 3D GPS navigation software and because I don't know where I can get my hands on good PC GPS software with maps without paying for it..

I think you did a great job considering what you spent. I wish i was more patient, and watched my money more closely.

    Looks Good!

    Thanks again

Today I got the CD-R installed. The pics are crappy, but in reality it looks and works very good

CD-R, especially in a carputer, makes a lot of sense because often times there are people riding in your car that have their own CDs and want you to play them (mostly because they despise your music ), so having a CD-R is a good idea. Another use for it is playing MP3 disks that mainstream car stereos don't play.
