Yuri.. dont down yourself man... you used skill where others just threw money at it..
now all you need is to build a bezel or console for that big screen to give it that pro/factory look and yours will be among one of the top installs that I have seen here...

You are so right. Big screen installs look really good.

Yuri has himself a system there that works. Just needs keep doing what he is doing and use time, and "Sweat equity" to finish it. It's all a learning exprerience. Take time, and DIY it, and it can look so cool, for a fraction of the cost of an installer, and when someone asks, you get to say "Yeah, I did it".

    Thanks
However I don't think a console will do any good at this point. This is a 12.1" LCD and my dash is only 2/3 of my LCD's width I wish I could mount that in the dash - that would look so cool! But I don't think it's possible. Well, I'm not giving up though There are still plenty of things that need to be done to enhance what I already have.

I didn't know Pibb Xtra came in a can.

Looks good man, now if somebody asks another "can I use my laptop screen blaah blah blah", I'll point them to this thread to shut them up. It can be done, that's sweet. An end to all newbs asking! Well probably not. But looks good, and even importantly it works. Have you considered frodoplayer, I think I've heard it can run pretty smooth on lower pentium systems. Well, good work.

I'd love to try out Frodoplayer, but my system is not touchscreen
Also, I use my numeric keypad to do all kinds of things - control winamp, control the mouse cursor, shut down/hibernate the system. So I guess I'm a WinAmp guy

    Yuriy,

Don't be down on your setup. You have to look at things in perspective. You are 16 years old. You have done a great job with the funds and experience you have. I'm not saying my setup is one of the top notch ones here, but I started modding my first car in 1979. Worked at an Oldsmobile dealership in the 80's turning wrenches. Experience is a big factor in an install. But an even bigger factor is planning out what you want to do. Looking things over numerous times until you figure where you want them. Study and research of your products is also important. I'm 41 now. Give yourself 25 years and a job where you can afford to put money into a hobby, and your setup will surpass most of (if not all) the setups on this board. Keep the faith. Keep learning. Keep finding ways to overcome your problems, and it will all work out in your favor.

I think you can program frodoplayer to use a keypad.

    Thanks Batman
One of my biggest obstacles is fear of cutting my dash into pieces
I did that on my previous car (22 year old nissan maxima) and I ended up using black tape all over the place Well, back then I didn't even had money to buy a decent laptop system. Not that my current one is decent, but at least now I got money to improve it

Well, I looked at Frodoplayer's website and I loved it. However, there are several things that won't work very well for my system:

    1. There are on-screen buttons that will only take up space since I can't use them without the touchscreen.

    2. The font is too small. Evn if it it adjustable, I still have more space for the playlist when using winamp. My eyes are really bad and I have to use glasses to drive at night.

    3. Frodoplayer supports many features that my system can't even run (DVD, Radio, GPS). The only use I have for it is music (although GPS use is possible, but I don't have the money to buy software with maps).

    Excellent install Yuriy.

ive been thinking about a pc install and u have answered a zillion questions i had. ur setup looks like just the thing!

i have an Acernote 350 laptop (p1 100mhz, 8mb ram, 540mb hd, win98) but alas i think its TOO crappy for any installs :P (no usb, no cd rom, no sound.... that could be a prob ). But am gonna see just wot i can get out of it. The screen, kboard, touchpad, etc etc should still be of use.

Q: can u tell me more about ur 'buddy pack'. Wot is that exactly?
power is something i havent quite decided on yet.
