original thread for v1.0:
another Mazda 6 carputer
v2.0 additions consist of a lilliput touchscreen, media car interface, and a power button. only thing left to do is decide on a GPS program.
here's some night time pictures. sorry, some of them are a little bit blurry.
watching "the west wing" dvd in media car. don't know why the taskbar is visible though.
power button
power button is wired to the docking station. this connection allows me to disconnect it so i can take the docking station out if necessary.

ok, i've finally added GPS to my system. i went with the delorme earthmate since it was on sale at best buy. and like everyone says, the receiver works great, but the software has a lot to be left desired. nevertheless, i find it very usable and sufficient for my needs. i also spray-painted the earthmate receiver black so that there wouldn't be a bright yellow thing sitting on the rear deck.

i got the mounting pieces from ProClip USA. they make a lot of vehicle specific mounts. the good thing about them is that you don't have to disassemble anything. they give you some small tools that allow you to just "snap" them into place. they're very sturdy and the install took no more than 5 minutes.

awesome job...
I about to attempt installing a lilliput in my RX-8 in almost the exact same position as yours. Although mine will be using a flexible mounting arm coming from inside the dash.
How did you get street atlas to go black background? i've used street atlas for about 8,000 miles and i still haven't noticed such an option...

under the GPS tab, i think it's under the settings. there's a whole list of options with checkboxes. i think the option was "use mobile map display" or something like that. there was also an option to automatically start the GPS whenever the program is launched instead of always having to hit the "start GPS" button.Originally Posted by robiewp
