thank you. I was hell bent trying to find a place to put the darn thing! I was thinking make a small small box for it, and a pocket next to the center console, no, set it in the map pocket, no, no space on the dash, in the center console, cant have it slide INTO the dash, no space, cant have it behind the rear seats, cant put it in the visor....wait a second.... of course!

I literally thought of every damn place I could, it was the only place I could come up with hardwired into the car! (I hate tails)

I think someone might have mentioned this already, but it would be very cool if it was a wireless keyboard, and the visor was removeable. That way, you could type to your heart's content andf then hide the keyboard back up when you're done. Very good if you really want a stealth install.

    Peace,

I really agree thats the best method. its the best of both worlds, would fit my requirements, and would fit everyone elses requirements.

my keyboard was about 1/4" thick. how thick is the thinnest wireless keyboard out there?

just think, at car shows when you get bored, you can pop open the trunk, since you of course have a 15 inch screen moulded into the trunk lid, pop out the keyboard, bring out yrou camp chair and wireless mouse, and have wireless (of course you have wireless networking) games of counterstrike in your car club.

thats when I walk over and laugh at you because counterstrike sucks

    but the idea is cool...

I like the mod... I didn't go that route as I wanted my setup to be fairly well hidden... In the end I found a USB keyboard that fit in my (smallish) glove compartment:

I looked for an illuminated keyboard (with glowing keys) but they are all too big!
If I get one I will definitely put it in my visor.

That's exactly what I used when I built ALECCS. (Link on site from sig)
I had a hard time with it too, thanks to trying to find a key while in an uncomfortable typing position, and taking my eyes from the road for too long. Heck no. I used that setup for about 2 weeks before I gave it up in favor of a simple keypad instead. I won't waver from that setup until I get a touchscreen in place.

simple just have it removeable to enter simple commands keep it where it is when u want to type longer commands have it unclip and either hook onto the steering wheel with a clip on the back of it (could be as simple as 2 wires bent slightly) or have it on your lap. When u want to move tis alot mor professional looknig to jsut clip it up their and fold it flat. I like it, if i evr put my shuttle in the car can imagine I would have a keyboard up their and a trackball built into a custom door panel.

who writes a whole word document on the in-car computer anyway?
normaly the keyboard isnt in that much use, so I think its a good place on the visor for the keyboard, looks nice..
