yeah the dvdrom at the back is really just for installing stuff and copying over new mp3's when needed. I have a plan to install a slot dvd combo at the front in the near future.. just need to catch up on some other work first. I havent tried to be honest using the dvdrom at the back whilst driving, I may try it just to test. Also I can confirm having the top up doesnt really make any difference to the gps working.

    cheers

Seth - the skins will be available once I have completed them. Just got to check there all working and not forgot something stupid.

Also just bought a couple of mini-fans.. on the way to the computer show it locked up, which is a clear sign of overheating..(been on for over an hour) will be fitting them soon :-)

Fans made a big difference on mine. Not as important for those people who don't have a closed case.

If you are looking for quiet, powerful fans, check out the gamma 28 fans from nidec. Used a lot of these in my overclocked and watercooled systems in my house. Make a bug difference and can't hear them.

You would need a laptop type (slim) cdrom dive ; the one that has the center pop-in to hold the cd/dvd. The type you have installed would not work at all while driving, unless it was a perfectly smooth road all the time.. But dont let my rain on your perade... You did do some of the finest work ive seen, iseen good ,but you DID GOODD!

    chuckctv,

You are incorrect in saying that cd/dvd won't work. I used one in my setup for about seven or eight months. Listened to cd's while driving, installed / copied files, etc... absolutely no problem what so ever.

Yeah going to fit these two tonight, there from a harddrive cooler add-on, only cost 4. I just need anything really to get a flow of air through my sealed box. Going to mount them in the lid I think.. thanks for the advice about the other fans if these dont do much I will have another think.

Ok, just fitted the 2 mini fans and drilled afew more air holes.. added a 'C D R' in drill holes because err.. ' I can' will have to take it on a long drive now to see if they have helped.. when I put my hand over the holes there is air blowing out so at least now I have fresh air going in. Time will tell.

I use one for the i-bus and the other for the fortuna GPS, I went for serial on the GPS because my first install was around a laptop, and only having a couple of usb ports on the back I wanted to save these for the touchscreen etc.. + after doing a bit of reading it seems some peeps were have probs with the usb type.

Then I guess you had really smooth roads where you are at, I did point out it would work with smooth roads, and im sure with MUCH investment you might be able to create a shock absorbing methed to assist in ruff road handing, but lets remember others are viewing all of the messages, do you want all the newbies to go out and buy full size desktop dvd players and start cutting up their dashes to install them, when most of us know that it wont work like that (with out SPECIAL modifacations), or... that the best bet is a slim (laptop type) dvd/cd rom unit.... BTW. I am glad to know that you made yours work, i assume in all type road conditions, you must have done a great job....
