It is a bit disconcerting hearing the Windows boot sound when I start the truck, though...
ouch - I can't imagine what the sound quality must be like!

and as others have said....just remove the sound or replace it!

good to see that someone was able to fit this stuff behind their dash! Bigger vehicles do lend themselves nicely to being able to do that!

Understand completely not wanting to mess up the resale value of the vehicle, but you can always buy a new dash piece, and that piece couldn't be all that expensive in the grand scheme of things

    just a thought, looks good!

5 drilled holes. 3 for mounting, 1 for the cable, and there is a "breather" on the GPS that I had to let in, too. There is a silicone sealed grommet around each hole, and the bottom of the GPS is sealed with silicone, too.

wait a second then....how could you be willing to drill holes in the roof for GPS but not be willing to mold the LCD in the dash?!?!?!

That makes ABSOLUTELY no sense to me!!!! Please do explain that one!

As stated in other posts, I don't have ANY experience with fiberglass, etc. and I didn't want to lose the stock radio (don't want to pay to add a different radio).

The GPS will probably stay with the vehicle if I ever sell it (I got a *killer* deal on two of them), and if not, the holes can be patched with some bondo and paint.

I know how to "reverse" the holes in the roof. I don't know how to do that for altering the dash.

I don't have a problem with the sound quality, but I don't have very high standards, either... I just have the radio/CD/mp3 for background noise. The only thing that's annoying is that the FM transmitter has a power-save mode (even though it's hard-wired to 12 volts) that turns off the transmitter when it sees no audio. It then takes a second or so can turn itself back on.

I may eventually replace it with an in-line FM modulator with a notch filter.

    New addition: carcam

I still need to find a better place to mount it because the window tint is in the way.
