Thought I'd update this thread since i changed a lot of things lately.. After 2.5 years with the CarPC the computer started to freeze up and crash all the time.. and something was up with the GPS receiver too.. taking 30 mins to lock sometimes never locking.. bad bad bad.. CarPC became unreliable and useless..

so infusion of new parts:
250W OPUS power supply replaces a 90W OPUS
GlobalSat BU353 GPS mouse replaces Holux GR213
1GB of Mushkin memory replaces 512meg "generic" memory
80GB 2.5" laptop HD replaces old 80GB desktop drive (crashed)
80GB 2.5" laptop HD replaces old 30GB laptop boot drive
added D-Link DIR-450 3g router
added Sprint PC-5740 1xEV-DO pcmcia card

I also reinstalled Windows and replaced MediaCar with RoadRunner, Digimoto 4.03, iGuidance 3.0.. yada yada..

CarPC is soo happy now and so am I.. It's a little faster, no more crashes!, GPS locks within 1 min on cold start.. 1 sec on warm or hot start.

that is sweet!! i've used my 3" harddrive for 2 years now on a slammed car...no problems...I believe the trick is mounting the drives vertically...

nice upgrade, I'm about due for one myself...I think going core2duo would be overkill, but why not...=)

I think you are right about mounting the HD vertically. I drive my z pretty hard and haven't had it skip or freeze once yet. And my first HD was almost 6 years old, new one is only 1.

BTW LEEMIK, how is that ev-do connection? I am thinking of switching from cable service to the mobile broadband service so I can use it in my car and home. Considering that for me they are both $60/month, do you think the mobile can compete?

2. Does a Z come stock with all those guages? Or are you a master of the fabbing? ... or both ....

I love EV-DO.. I have the crappiest card Sprint offers but connection speed doesn't feel bad at all to me.. they say 1-2Mbps and the connection feels like it.. definately an upgrade to the GPRS-bluetooth dial up i was doing.. I've used the card on my laptop with the sprint connection software and in this router in the car.. it feels faster in the router .. maybe less overhead? I dunno why..

The seats are not stock, they are Bride XAX II racing seats with red leather and cloth center.. The only gauges I added were the 3 on the a-pillar and the HUD.. The rest come with the car

I'm a new to carputers and I'd have to say your car is wow.

With your current set up. WHat do u have in terms of software?

I'm trying to decided what i should do after i gather all my parts together. Windows is great for a home computer but for a carputer I'm concern about what software will make the carputer functional?
