1997 camaro totally indash LCD and PC

Its about~99.9% finished so i figured it ok to post.
Heres what i got:

Asrock mircoATX mobo
256 mb ddr400 ram
60gig 7200rm maxtor harddrive
notebook DVDrom
7'' LCD scree with 400nits brightness(bright!)
Touchscreen kit
Creative sound blaster 5.1 digital soundcard runnin RCAs to a Alpnie mrv-f450
Opus 150w car dc-dc powersuply
Windows XP, mediaengine 2.32, lt1edit and Free scan digital dashboard/obd1 scanner
near future: D-link USB radio and iGuidance Ver 2.0 GPS navigation

It can play DVDs, one of my current 65 DIVX Movies, or one of my 1500mp3s. it also can show my cars data including engine paramiters and mph, boost, rpm on a digital dash board.
It will soon have the radio installed and GPs navigation


The only think i have left is buying the radio and gps

Looks good! I love the place where you keep your system :)
Now all you need to do is to do some minor touching up with fiberglass and you're all set :)

Nice install man I've been researching stuff to install in my Camaro and I've been trying to figure out where to place the mobo. Which ASRock board did u use I've checked on the dimensions of the microATX boards and they are around 9.6"x9.6" if thats the same size as your board how did u get it to fit behind the stock stereo system behind the dash..

Do tell me your going to leave the sides of the screen open like that, it would be so getto. j/k

It looks really good so far, the screen fits in there nicely. Doesn't look like you had to do much cutting. A little bondo and it will look like the screen came stock.

WOW very cool that you were able to fit a normal ATX board in your dash, with the hard drive and still have room for your LCD. Propps to you man.

2 questions though,

1. What processor are you running?

2. Are you sure that you will be able to leave your mobo like that behid the dash, especially on hot days? If your not gonna bondo around the screen, I'd suggest custoizing some really quiet fans around it. Use it to heat your car :lol:

Im using the asrock K7S41GX
9.5 x 7.5'' smallest microATX board i could find. What really cool is i only have to cut one thing, just a small wire loom for the stock radio. When i need to go back to stock, its all there for me. Minus the bezel of corse, but i had a coupld of those lieing around.

Im using the AMD duron 2500. Seems to stay generally good temp. Im not using stock cooling, but a actually larged fan/heat sink combo. The mother board its actually mounted to the a/c tubing back there, so a large portion of the mobo is touch cool plastic piping.

Another thnk i do to help in the aid of cooling is close the a/c vents in the center. my car has 100k miles on it and that foam trim is shot just on the bottom. works to my favor tho, blows a nice flow of air over the entire setup.


The fit was tight, but suprisingly it could have gone several different ways. one way i debated would have had almost all the plugs accessable out the front, but would have required a lot of cutting, so i opted out. It was tricky, but very do about. just be extremly carful to make sure nothing touching something its not supose to.

I have already cleaned up most of the wires and removed wires that dont do anything since i took pics. I plan on putting one more fun in there to help out in keeping good airflow back there.
Only thinkj i wonder about before i bondo up the gap, i want a volume knob, but how one earth would i wire this in? if anyone knows please let me know.

You are going to have to go really careful with condensation. Moist florida air + a cool pipe = condensation. Can you bleed some a/c from the tube into the dash space? AC air is dehumidified.

Wow! That's going to look great after the bondo work. Nice DVD drive install as well.

Hey, I recognize the plastic shelf that the HD is sitting on. I chopped that out for more room. The whole bottom and left. :) Cooling isn't much of a problem in that space I guess because of the openings under it for keeping the factory HU cool.

I watched that for several days (left the radio out) and never really got any condensation. BUT that was my biggest concern and stil i am very worried. Maybe the fact my a/c dont get as cold as it use to helps as well

Im actully debating weather or not to cut in to a baffle a small portion of the vent air from the main a/c tube to the computer area. even when the a/c is not on, i can still leave the fan on to blow are over the area

Suggestion:
Cut out the Camaro "button" and unused button to its left and mount the DVD drive to the underside of the AC vents so that it's flush with the dash. It would look slick and probably be easier to get to/connect to.

Great job fitting it in there...lots of room to work with = clean install.
