Just another Q: with 'stock radio mounting points' You mean those ON the double din radio bracket or the mounting points who HOLD the double din radio bracket. In other words, did you ditch the bracket?

Now you can't reach the buttons anymore?

i did ditch the bracket. if you look at the bracket it is basicly a rectangular metal tube with some tabs sticking out on either side. These tabs are screwed to the mounting points in the dash and the radio is secured in the tube. My bracket has similar tabs (or you could say wings) sticking out on either side. One difference is that I only used 4 of the 6 availible mounting points.

As far as the buttons are concerned it is true that i cannot reach them. I had origionally planned to remote them which is really not that difficult of a proposition. I have never gotten around to it though and to be honest I havent missed them. I have an auxilarry 12v buss in the car that is switched on and off with the ignition via a relay watching the acc line. I use this buss to power the Xenarc amoung other things. Nice thing about the Xenarc is that it will turn on automaticaly when power is applied so i don't have to worry about the power button. I guess it would be nice to be able to get at the brightness and contrast but it still hasen't bothered me to the point of getting up to remote the buttons...

Guess I'll have to make a custom plastic bracket myself. I power my Xenarc through a 12V HD connector from the Opus. In the past it happened once or twice that the picture kind of 'off-setted'. Pressing on one of the little buttons centered the image again.

This is how wi77iam did it:other xenarc in wrx

He seemed to have kept part of the housing and also integrated the xenarc buttons into the wrx bezel.

Sometimes I think that the WRX's were made just for carputers - there are so many things that can be added to the dash space and interior. Everything looks great.

In fact, this is exactly what I would have done if I had a Subbie.

I couldn't agree more with you. I have taken apart the interiors of a number of different cars and nothing came apart (and went back together) nearly as easily as this Subaru. I gotta give props to people who get thier VW's apart and back together again looking good.

quick question from someone who doesnt own a WRX. Did you fabricate that dashpod or was that stock?

That just gave me an idea for what to do when I get the new dash bezel for my truck and finally start designing the system.

I is a stock part that is intedned to relpace the dashtop clock with a set of 3 gauges.

I was well into the design of a custom fabrication when i discovered that it would work. There are a whole host of different ways to make something like it depending on what you want the end result to look like.

Yes, I know these tails are ugly, they are also broken inside...I severly hated these tails.

Yea it's Sonic Yellow. I love the color and I'm pretty sure that there are less than 1500 of them. I've only ever seen two others on the road.
