Wow! great install...what amps are those that actually fit in that space?
i made a bracket that is very similar to this one

i would have just bought it but i couldn't bring myself to spend $30 for something i could make for $4.
It is really slick s shaped bracket made of a piece of sheet metal that snakes into the dash and is attached under one of the screws that holds the HVAC controls. It provides a flat mounting plate with a bunch of holes in it you can attach the factory cradel for you phone to. I definatly recomend getting getting the factory cradel and not trying to use a universal one.
good luck

Wow, very nice install. I plan on doing my own install in a few weeks and will use this post as reference. I'll probably order the same computer parts (on a side note, if you don't mind, how much did the whole set-up cost you not including the speakers/amps/sub). I don't plan on running a seperate head unit.
Also, any worries with your mounting location? With the rain and snow we get here in the NE, is there a concern with someone sitting in the back seat with wet boots/shoes?
Once again, I really like your set-up.
i couldn't tell you what it all cost minus the audio stuff. I had a bunch of that stuff already and i also ended up buying lots ot things that didn't make it into the car. It's easy to figure out the cost of the computer stuff, it's all the connectors buttons wire zip ties brackets ect that are hard to plan for. I ended up trying a number of things i later replaced.
As far as the snow is concerned i'm not all that worried. If you think of the al box i am using for a case as a tub you will realize that as long as you keep the ventilation holes elevated off the bottom a little bit that it would be hard for water to get in there. if you were really worried you could keep the back wall that faces the rear passenger solid and vent it from side to side.
Good luck
I've been looking for a place to mount my carputer in my WRX. Under the seat was my first choice but I was quickly turned down when I found the heater vents pointing directly where the computer would go .... on both sides of the car. How do you take care of this dilema?
Otherwise great install!![]()
I'm putting mine up in a Subaru gauge housing, up where the clock pod used to be.Originally Posted by Vastedge

I blocked off the under seat vents in front of the computer, too bad for the rear passengers cold feet.... I had concidered rerouting the airflow around the computer by using a piece of flexhose but i got lazy.
If you're concerned about heat you will not want to usethat dashtop pod however. The thermal gain up there will vastly exceed anything that may come out of the heater vents. I don't know if it will be too hot or not but i hope Giuliano will be able to tell us all soon. Maybe a little solar powered fan is in order. It would run at all the right times...
On the topic of the dashtop pod, I saw a msg from one of the other WRX's on the board here saying that they are having good results with thier GPS hidden inside it. I'm all for one less hint that there is something expensive in the car...
Good Luck
I currently have my radio in the gauge pod which is the perfect spot. I am still weary about under the seat. I think if we all put our minds together we can come up with the perfect spot. What about in the dash, behind or around the glove box, in the passenger air bag compartment (legal?), in the center console?
I think the absolut perfect spot would be behind the screen with a mini motherboard as shown here:

The problem I have with this install is I just bought the Opus 150W Power Supply and I intent to use it.
Anyone with ideas? Does anyone have pictures/drawings of behind the dash or glove box?
Thanks
We need the nano-itx to come out
Otherwise it's a ***** to fit the mini-itx behind the dash unless you resolder a lot of stuff. I currently have mine under the driver's seat as well. It's actually a really convenient location. All the cables seem to be just the right length (VGA, GPS, audio, etc).
