they work fine now, it's just that the factory control is pretty large & not techie looking at all, I'd rather do away with them.......

Okay noob question. I could search and find the answer but where would the fun be. Is there a great improvment when using backlight? Does the normal light from an lcd not output enough light? I know sunlight is a B***H on screens. I have a 15 inch lcd that I was toying with putting into my truck but its hard enough to even see the screen on my current 6 inch LCD screen, during the day.

What i guess im saying is do i need to spend days milling out heat sinks for high power leds to iluminate my 15 inch lcd screen which will overwhelm my already compact dash? Thanks in advance
Um, I guess this is where you put something witty.WITTY
