ah, the honda woun't take a lot of time really, I'll kinda bounce between the two, with the montana getting all the major carzy stuff... the honda will be relativelty simple... but ah... the 15" sub fits it perfect, so that should be going in an aperiodic rear deck assy... more on that in it's own worklog...

this is the last picture of the honda here... I'm going to start a worklog for it, the screen is going to be pretty sick... this is testfitting the lcd in the dash... it can be recessed a bit more than shown when I start cutting, but I won't start into that until the montanas back on the road, then I'll bounce back & forth between them... my wife & motherinlaw are *****ing the hondas not comfortable like the van was

Turns out the camaro owners went free air and didn't use a membrane. What looks like a mesh screen is just grill cloth to keep out dust and dirt. They say the car is heavy into SQ, but I bet it would sound better if converted to aperiodic. Oh well, it's still neat looking.

Is it a special material used in aperiodic membranes? Or could a really thick cloth do it?

Would the little grill cloth do anything that acted similar to an aperiodic memebrane?

the real difference I guess is in the woofers suspension, if it doesn't bottom in the free air config, then I guess it's ok for them really.... the foam or fiberglass window is just to help control the suspension of the sub, some subs need more assistance than others... the aperiatic "window" kinda works like a air valve, allowing the air to escape slower from the box, assisting in the air suspension of the sub, but still allowing more excursion than just a tiny box would provide....

my 15" may work in a free air config too, just using the whole trunk as enclosure, but with an enclosure that large, the sub may bottom under extreme hits, which is where the aperiatic membraine comes into play... it is kinda like those giant airbags that they use for jumpers off buildings... there are openings in the bag, but small enough that the air can come out, but delayed by resistance of the smaller restrictive opening... in theory even smaller openings with no "filter", be it foam of fiberglass insulation, may work, but be much harder to tune & be less forgiving throughout the whole range of the sub, & may chuff like a port too... this is why aperiatic was developed to begin with, to give more control than a free air setup when the enclosure of the trunk (or the world in that camaro's case)is too large to help the sub.....

I guess different material will flow different cfm's per sqare inch... I know a semi dense but pourous foam has been done with sucess & now I see through jasons link that fiberglass insulation can do as wel, but is even more flow than ridgid foam, which is why he's using half the surface area of the sub as an opening rather than equal to the subs surface area....

this'll be cool to play with... I already have it all designed in my head... it'll be a free air install, with the baffle plate being 5-6" below the deck.. the face of the woofer will be facing into the trunk... the whole deck will be opened up, or at least equivelent surface area to the sub... then, the thing will play free air, but how & what I seal this deck opening with will be the aperiatic layer, so I can play around with altering the density & opening area by replacing the deck insert....

enough about the honda here I started a worklog here, I'll post up diagrams & stuff there...... chime in if you want to follow the progress on the honda

as far as the minivan, I just go a shipment of most of the final parts... off to play with it now.... can't wait to see what this 6.3" transflective screen looks like turned on

nope.... I'm waiting for the multiplexer to be finalized... still a few bugs, then all the electronics will go in.... I want to get the system in & up & running, then I'll finish off all the cosmetics...

other than that, my upholster screwed up the front lower seat covers now, so I had to wait again for him to order 2 new ones from katzkin.... this is his last shot...he still has to sew in the snake skin inserts.... if he can't get the seats right this time I'm going to flip out & be so ****ed off that I'm probably going to just get a whole new interior... sucks really...... it'll be done..... eventually

I think when you're all finished you are going to "accidentally" break something so you can find some other way to make this thing even more badass if thats even possible.

By the way, I wanted to let you know that you were the sole inspiration for me to fix my laptop's backlight the other day. I took it apart, took out the old ccfl, and soldered a new one in and it works like a champ. Hope that means something to you.
