'97 M3 here also. I should have all my parts in by next week, including a 7" Lilliput in black. What did you do with your OBC? You think the screen might be too low to see while driving?
No tints (well not yet anyway) Daytime is variable, depends on where the sun is. The car is black with black leather and black trim so reflection is not too much of a problem, it's only when the sun hits it directly that it becomes difficult to see.
Mine is a bit higher so it's an easier angle to see, but more likely to pick up the sun
besides I don't have to look at it all the time.

ieek you epoxyd the screen in. That's a permanent install then. Bold of you, I wish I had the guts to rip open my dash, but I love my dash too much.
I see you still use the egg of the lilli, thinking of powering it through your ps or....?
The epoxy is only on the non visible parts of the dash. I could return the whole thing to stock in a matter of about an hour plus $10 for a new sunglass holder.Originally Posted by SAPiens
Well I did it!
I spent 8 hours running wires and fabircating dashboards and what not tonight, but it's done (practically. I still need to get the OBD reader stuff and the shutdown controller, but that stuff should take me an hour at most of toss in)
It looks really good if I do say so myself. I'll take pics tommorow after I've slept.
nice, when do you get the OBD2 reader and shutdown controller?Originally Posted by Skipjacks

The drive looks sweet though, I love slot loading drives.
Allright this is the blurry picture I took at 5 am last night. I'll get more picts of the total install if and when I decide to wake up and go outside today.
The caption to this pic is that I put a video input on the dash in the event I wanted to look at my pitcures from a digital camera before I got home. Might come in handy on a vacation or something.
Next to that I put in a cooling fan complete with safety mesh (was particularly proud of that part) to blow out some of the hot air ffom behind the screen. It's a hope that I can stave off the Lilliput touch screen overheating issue.
Above the fan I put a toggle botton so I can turn the fan on/off depending on the season. I figure if it's 100 degrees outside and I've got the AC rolling full blast, I won't need the fan to take away heat from the air ducts behind the monitor. And since the fan is kinda loud (go ahead, you find me an ultra quiet 45mm fan. believe me I looked!) it's nice to be able to shut it off. It's not so loud that you notice it when the radio and car are both running, but in the event you need total quiet in the car the fan can go bye bye.
Still left to be installed are the OBD2 stuff and shutdown controller, which should be here later next week. And I found a small USB touchpad device that I'm going to put in the armrest and mount flush to look fantabulous. But it's $44 and I havent' convinced myself that any pointing device is worth 44 bucks. (Don't worry, I spend money better and sillier than anyone I know. I'll convince myself to splurge eventually)
But the shutdown controller is the thing I'm looking forward to most. This get out of the car to turn the computer off business is for the birds. However it does survive crank, so I can turn it on before I get in and turn it off after I get there for the time being. No hopping in and out.
What I really need is something to put in front of the screen in the unlikely event I have the leave the car someplace even semi questionable. I thought about making a little shroud that sits over it perfectly with printed picture of bare wires orn 8 Track player or something so that it doesn't gain any unwanted attention from passers by.
Allright back to my nap. I'll do more later.
Comming up...
How I ran the wires to the truck, how I mounted the PC (I'll give you a hint, Velcro is AMAZING stuff), and why I raelly didn't need the 10ft monitor extension and should replace it with a 6ft or even a 3ft if I can find one. (Who know the lilliput cord would be so damn long?)
Since everyone's giving this thread attention, maybe someone could shift that attention over to my other thread when I have GPS problems (shameless elf promotion, I know)
Earthmate GPS don't work...help please
Please help. Thanks!
