    1997 BMW M3 in progress.....

Here's what I've done so far

The hole in front of it will be filled with the plastic peice the car comes with only modified to hold a small 45mm cooling fan and an RCA video input plug to hook my digital camera up to in the event I want to look at pictures from a vacation or something quickly and easily before I actually got home. Or I could use it for whatever might come up later that I might want a video input for. (That's what's great about carputers...the possibilities are endless!)

I'll put more pics up as I get it more completed. I just had to share what I'd doen so far because I think it looks awesome (or at least will look awesome once it stops looking like a construction site in my car)

    Thanks!

When I do more work on it, I'll take more pictures.

Right now that's pretty much all there is to see. I have to finish up the corners of the trim around the screen. I used windshieldwipers to create a good looking rubber seal about the screen. But the corners need to be meshed up a little more. That'll take super glue, tweezers, and alot of patience. So I'll finalize that soon, probably this weekend during the actual computer install when I get ****ed at why the computer isn't working right. (I know that's going to happen at some point since computers hate me. haha)

Also the fan install I'll post pics of that specifically. I think that's one of the neater features of my setup is the way to pull the hot air out from behind the screen. I don't want heat building up back there.

nice idea with the windshieldwipers, if you got them just lying around. I've been waiting to do any dash mods til i get my second lilliput housing from digitalww, but now it says they're out of stock, and I dont see it happening anytime soon.

Well the thing with the windshield wipers was that the Lilliput fit perfectly in the double din slot. It needed to be epoxyed in to make sure it stayed put. But that left a slight seem around it. I used the wipers just to hide the seem. They aren't actually holding anything in.

Thank you thank you....I think I was more proud of that than anythin gelse I've done to the car! It was suprisingly simple to do. Anyone who's got a clear overlay on their shifter should be able to do it. I printed out the logo, glued it face down on the back of the plastic insert, then painted the back of the thing black. Looks totally professional. You'd never know it ws homemade up close. (The camera flash makes it seem red though)

And BoyNextDoor....UPS tracking says the computer is out for delivery now! THat means as soon as my meeting is done here at work I'm going to be suddenly ill and need to go home. (Now you see why I wanted that tracking number so bad. I've watched it go across the country and now it's within 10 miles of me)

Hey you have the same screen I do in the same kind of car. How do you see it during the day? Did you tint the windows or anything?

No tints (well not yet anyway) Daytime is variable, depends on where the sun is. The car is black with black leather and black trim so reflection is not too much of a problem, it's only when the sun hits it directly that it becomes difficult to see.

Mine is a bit higher so it's an easier angle to see , but more likely to pick up the sun

besides I don't have to look at it all the time.

'97 M3 here also. I should have all my parts in by next week, including a 7" Lilliput in black. What did you do with your OBC? You think the screen might be too low to see while driving?

ieek you epoxyd the screen in. That's a permanent install then. Bold of you, I wish I had the guts to rip open my dash, but I love my dash too much.

I see you still use the egg of the lilli, thinking of powering it through your ps or....?

The epoxy is only on the non visible parts of the dash. I could return the whole thing to stock in a matter of about an hour plus $10 for a new sunglass holder.

    Well I did it!

I spent 8 hours running wires and fabircating dashboards and what not tonight, but it's done (practically. I still need to get the OBD reader stuff and the shutdown controller, but that stuff should take me an hour at most of toss in)

It looks really good if I do say so myself. I'll take pics tommorow after I've slept.
