also, how did u cut the wood around the wells????
what do the other 4runner installers think about this????
this is most likely the route i'm going... i know i have room in the storage panels, but i think i will do this
do you think the molded to fit around the wheel wells is the way to go or a smiple box would do (allow for side storage?)
How much weight can this case sustaIN?
i plan on splitting the box into 4 quadrants - 1/2 will be pc, 3 will be amp/audio, 4 will be storage (tow cables, tools, etc)...
i want to get grey carpet so it matches interior
this is a good theft deterrent!

mine is made from 20mm MDF and you can see from the pics above what is supporting the floor, It can hold my weight no problem, and I carry scuba diving kit on top which includes a set of double tanks, so i guess its pretty strong. There is a hinged lid in the centre to gain access without lifting the whole thing out.
The cutouts for the wheel arches were done first with a card template, then transfer onto the mdf when you are happy with the fit.
You should be able to get grey boot carpet no problem.
www.auto-acoustics.co.uk is where i got mine.
Looks really good. Very clean. Now finish off the clean dash by removing the Xenarc sticker on the LCD case.![]()
>what do the other 4runner installers think about this????<
I am a 4runner owner. I think the install is slick but I am designing my system to fit under my car seat. I am trying to keep everything pretty simple.
I think it's great! I love the display up front. And I originally thought about the same thing... a hidden floor with everything in it. My only problem is that I use (and abuse) my 4Runner religiously. I'm up in the mountains all the time with the rear filled from front to back, top to bottom. Also, I have Husky Liners in mine since I always have wet, snowy equipment back there. That being said, I absolutely could not give up one inch of my storage space or have anything back there that was at all breakable. Otherwise, I would've probly done it that way cause there's a lot more room to work back there compared to behind the dash!!Originally Posted by nsmoller

@SDL:
how is the top in there??? is that screwed into the case or does it rest on top? i am just wondering because it was added on last. it seems like a good idea to do a more temporary install on the top piece incase you wanna rework everything and REALLY have to get in tehre!!!
i'm definitely jacking your idea
how tall is it??? how did u put the new box into the car (Does it rest there or is it bolted)???

I love the way the trunk turned out. I did the same thing with my wagon, but my trunk is lower then the lip around.
It turned out incredible. Awesome job. I especially like the carperted interior.

Top (Floor) section just rests on top but is a nice snug fit and does not budge, box just sits nice and tight between the wheel arches. Nothing is bolted down so everything can be removed in about 15 mins if necessary. All components are screwed down in the box obviously. There is a hinged lid for access to pc and amps. Whole thing stands 5" from the floor.Originally Posted by nsmoller
