I plan on installing either this weekend or next, but I do not have all of my hardware in yet, so it all depends. I will definately post pics of everything as I am working on it.

The only issue I have is mounting the PC somewhere since I decided to go with mATX instead of mini-ITX. I wanted the flexibility and power, but kind of wish i went with the size. Oh well, will see what I can do with this situation.

As far as the sound goes, I have not even cracked my dash panel yet, so I have no idea what I am going to do with sound (I have the factory sound with 6-disc cd, xm, and onstar), but there are two options: 1) use the AUX in 2) buy an amp and wire it to the speakers. I have not worked out the details for either, but will post when ever i do.

I bought my Xenarc from a forum-member here a little while ago - got a good deal, but wish I had the remote. I think they just started selling the Xenarcs with remotes.

Also, I would go with the Aux-in option. Not sure if your system can handle it since you already have Onstar and XM, but you will get the LEAST amount of headache as well as the least amount of work going with aux in. If you go the amp/speaker install route, you will be spending lots of time installing in addition to the $ you will have to shell out for all the new equipment.

You are obviously not going to have bumping sound, but you will have peace of mind. I redid my whole system on my car and it's an F-in nightmare. I'm getting great experience and gaining good knowledge, but its a headache.

I don't care if my Xenarcs ARE literally within arm's reach (no stretching), I want a remote, dammit!

What's the "channel" buttons? Is that just input select? What about the "scan" and "yes/no" buttons? Grr... I better not be missing more than the remote...

    1) How are you powering the screen?
    2) Is Opus going to be able to take all that computer?
    3) Are you using onboard sound and video?

Get yourself a decent soundcard - you're already knee-deep into this, you might as well pony up for a better soundcard. Also, if you're planning on adding a TV card get one NOW and an amplified antenna. Do it sooner rather than later. If you decided to add it later, your going to have more work to do.

In addition, I hope that wifi usb stick can take an external antenna. Depending on where your PC will be buried, the wifi will have degraded performance due to its location if its under some panelling or under some carpet. Thus, the antenna.

The onboard sound will probably be fine. I use that same MB for my home theatre and for my CarPC. Keep this in mind though, it does not have a APU with dolby decoding like it's big brother the A7N8X-E, it uses software. This was a huge disapointment for me when it came to the HTPC because I planned on using the SPDIF out. Which works fine when I play DVD's but not divx. So currently have have the SPDIF going into DVD on my receiver and the analog going to 5.1 on my receiver. I use DVD when playing DVD's and the 5.1 for everything else. I plan on replacing it with a audio card that has either optical or SPDIF out with dolby decoding. But for the car where i really don't need DD it's just fine.

My USB came with an extension, so I am hoping that will work out. I do not plan on hooking up an antenna, unless the signal is horried.

I do not plan on putting a TV card in it, nor do I see myself doing that.

    Hey,

I noticed that you are still using your stock receiver. I found this yesterday here. They're aux in adapters for stock systems.

    http://www.xmfanstore.com/showproduct.php?id=pieoem

You have to know which adapter works for your car's stereo, so attached is a zipped PDF that tells which adapter goes to which model.

    Good luck.

Thanks, but I have an in-dash 6 disc cd changer, which according to note 2, does not work with these adapaters. Let me know if I am wrong. Nice heads up though, wish I knew for sure it would work, might have to give them a call.
