I had a rough weekend. Boy, everything and anything went wrong. Tried installing my $40 RF Modulator, JUNK*** I proceeded to rip the mother f-er out, while the car was still on, and threw it across the yard. Mind you, it was snowing out too and damn cold. It landed in a snow back about 30 feet away.

Then, I am like f***, how I am gonna get my damn mp3's to play now.. ugh. I have been unsuccessful finding an aux in for my vehicle, and since it is a lease, do not really want to replace the head unit. so, those are my sound woes.

Next, I was like stupid CoPilot, was not finding a gps signal and I was tired of having the bottom two buttons (Plan & Exit) not showing, so I proceed to switch from 800 x480 to 800 x 600. I thought I would give it a try and see how I like it and what not. But, stupid thing switch the refresh rate to 240hz or whatever, just not 60, so I could not see my screen.

So, I am even more enfuriated, so I am like, I'll just go inside, cool down and rethink my process. Then, I turn off my car and the set the switch to off. I waited 2 minutes for my PC to turn off. So, like the angry t-ed off tempered man that I am, I ripped the damn switch out too.

UGH!!!! so, that is the story and I am sticking to it. I originally tried piecing things together with current parts that I had, i.e. cable, heat shrink tubes, connectors, to save some money. But, I have since ordered a whole bunch of wiring, connectors, cable loom, cable sleeving, heat shrink tubes, heat shrink gun, another RF modulator ($20), about another $250 worth.

So for my project that was supposed to be fairly easy and cheap, it is become a pain in my arse and wallet. Funny thing is I have been contemplating even doing a carPC, but I have been reading posts, and keeping track of hardware/software that would seem to work best. Oh well, I'll post more updates this weekend as all my stuff is supposed to come in today and tomorrow. Hopefully I can get this mother f-er to work and be finished. It is consuming all of my time and I have other hobbies that I want to concentrate on.

Well, how'd you like that update? UGH.. anyone want to come over and finish this for me, it'll be a blast, i'll supply the beer!!

    Hmm, let me check....

Ok, I got it from Directron, part PSK-3100U. It is pretty kewl that it is small, but it really hard to type on. I might be getting a little bit bigger keyboard, like the size of a laptop one, but we will see how it goes.

HAHAHHAHAHA - this is my story as well. Ordering parts just never stops. I feel like there is something I need on a weekly basis...it's a freaking money pit.

How much of a pain is it to unplug and plug back in the screen when you wanna hide it? I have the Envoy cousin, the Trailblazer, and have been trying to figure out where/how to mount my screen. My latest idea was to cut a hole in the top of the dash and put in a compartment with a flip-up lid. I'd mount the screen to the underside of the lid.

I wish they had designed the dash a bit better. It would have been easy in my Blazer.

Actuall it is not that big of a pain. The biggest pain is getting the little screw adapter to fit in the square hole just right so that the screen is more secure on the mount. It probably takes about 2 mins, 5 at most, to put it on. I have never really timed it, but I have taken it on/off about 50 times without too much frustration or time involved.

My truck is a lease, so the mount works perfectly for my needs. The only real concern you might have is if you use your CD player/changer, since the monitor does block a good portion of it.

EDIT: I noticed I did not have a pic of the setup on the site. I will try to take one this weekend for you.

Coeus any luck on getting some pics of the setup and install locations in your Truck. I have a 2004 Envoy XUV and I am intrested in seeing how you mounted everything.
