wow nice *rig* i like seeing all these corollasyours is a later model of mine but mines a 4 door hatch
everything else looks almost the same
I dont know much about cars or much about Carputers but i know a bit about computers .... and customising them
Nice setup dude!
I have the same corolla and i'm thinking of some setup like this one or using the space below the a/c controls as 2 DIN slots, one for a xenarc (or other) dash mounted touchscreen and one for a small travla case.
BTW, is it comfortable using the touchscreen when your on 3rd or 5th gear? Is there enough space?
lol i could even answer that for ya Hammer... i've got my carpc installed into my Toyota Corolla GTS 1988Originally Posted by Hammer_
basically same bottom center area, got an indash Xenarc 700IDT in the bottom of the 2 1/2 din area cuz it's the only spot with enough back clearance to fit the 8" case plus 1" for cables in the back, just got it in there today though, I can't say it's totally conveinent... but it works. no matter where i put it i have to lean forward to touch it kinda since i sit so far back, but to position my hand to know where the buttons are, i just wrap my thumb around the gearshift, then you'll remember where you're touching
hone those blind skills a little. and as far as watching dvds on it and gearshift getting in the way... well put it in 2nd or reverse :P, wont bother ya. Basically these flat up n down dashes kinda screw us in this way, just have to deal with it and smile
, soon you'll love it
but continue to show your install buddy, like seeing how ppl are doing this in other corolla's, I know mine took a good month or so of planning hehe, still need to rebuild computer case to fit where I really want it to go.
Thanks for the info. My main concern was if there is enough space for the in-dash touchscreen to open and if there's enough space to use it... I won't be watching any DVDs while on the move, that's for sure! I believe the usage of my car pc will be gps/maps, mp3 playing and engine monitoring through OBD (if I ever manage that!). For any of these uses I think I'll be ok!Originally Posted by Speedsterworld
Well, i have the same car and i was wondering about your installation of the deck in the upper din space... Did you have to remove the air ducting? When i pulled it apart there was only about a 4" depth until i hit my vents. I just moved everything to the lower din spaces and just used the upper one for storage. But now that im thinking of putting the screen in the lower din spots i dont know if i just want to eliminate my head unit or see if it is possible to relocate it to the top space. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
