First Mac Mini in a Land Rover

2000 Land Rover Discovery II

Mac Mini Install:

1. Mini, Power Brick and Ext. Firewire drive in Glove box.

2. 7" Lilliput touch screen works great with OS X.

3. iMic for USB Audio In / Out.

4. Adesso Mini USB Keyboard with Trackball.

5. Bluetooth and 802.11g Built-In on Mac Mini.

3. USB Hub on console for whatever.

4. Belkin Inverter for power.

5. Bluetooth phone for GPRS connection to Internet.

Still in stage 2 (refining), but all works currently.* I can do updates from my driveway through my wireless connection.* I can watch movies with VLC, iTunes, Surf the Web with GPRS connection on my Bluetooth Phone, etc.

Wow, that's impressive. I had thought about getting a Mac Mini and putting it in my glove box too (I have a truck so it's big :P). Mad props on the install man, very nice.

Does the mac mini perform well in the car? I've been wondering if it's worth the extra 200 bucks from what I've already spec'ed out to upgrade to.

Thanks, it does great in the truck. Get another power supply for in the house and it can be used in the house or the truck. It's quick to connect and remove. I'd highly suggest it, not sorry one bit.

Awesome, maybe I'll have to look more indepth into getting a mac mini for my truckputer. I like how small it is and that it's pretty portable and will fit in my glove box because I think my seats are too low and I don't want to have to do a lot of tweaking to my truck to get things to fit.

I was thinking about trying to wire everything to the bottom of my glove box so I could actually "dock" the computer in the glove box and have some sort of strap or lock mechanism that would hold it down. Gotta see how much room I have behind the glove box first though :/. Thanks for the help :), I may be joining you in the Mac Mini Trukputer club ;).

Question though, how much did it run you total? I'm curious to see how much more your setup is to the one I was planning which was < $1000.
