Leicester end. You keep inviting me to digitalcar meets, remember ? But I'm a bit too old in the tooth for that sort of thing. Be embarrasing turning up with all the young Guys.
But still, I'm very young at heart and very computer literate compared with just about any others my age. Pretty good with software, networking, and can build/repair PC's, just not into programming like you...still could learn.

PS: I don't believe YOU. There is no such thing as final or even final final. It's a never ending evolution, and you know it.

How are you using the steering wheel controls?

I am just at the moment trying to get them working and after finding it easy to remove it (flat head screwdriver in the middle hole behind on the stalk - it pops out) I cannot get the insides out!!!!!!!

And to answer both your posts.... I use just the +- volume via the Ext-CD interface into the CD6000. Just like you did. It would be nice to be able to navigate tracks, DIR's though. Is this what you are trying to do ?
By the way, you divorced yet ? The way I read it, the better half had grudgingly allowed you to do "limited changes to the new car"
Sounds to me like your doin' a Fast & Furious to it !!
Now you know my guilty secret.... you wouldn't like to help me with some advice on the next stage of my carpc project, would you ? like you have in the past.

I know the feeling..When I pulled the original facia, I tried like hell to get the heater control/knob to pieces, but gave up in the end. I think something went crack on it when I tried to put the facia back, because the knob doesn't quite line up with the start and end positions on the dial!! Nevermind, it still works.

Hey you ought to post in the 'how old are you' thread (or mebbe I missed it)

I've got rid of the head unit - I've put an amplifier in instead, just for the speakers hence doing the steering wheel control.

No not divorced yet getting married in June actually! Yes grudgingly is the word... Luckily she'll be driving soon in her own car... Anway

I found it a pain in the *** too. First time I got it out, I used a short screwdriver to unscrew the controls from the fascia panel itself. Found out later that the mechanical dials unclip from the back quite simply and the electronic dial comes off if you unclip it 'the wrong way'.

Is your fascia panel itself now just simply clipped in (mine is).. and did you have to cut any of the dash plastic behind?

RIGHT, My head unit is in the glove box, although I had to cut a chunk out of the back to allow the door to clear and close. I intend to neaten that up when I have a chance.

I was able to unclip the offending control at the back and drop the back of it 90deg but that is all, and that's where I got stuck.

Yes mine is just clipped in too. I had to cut away about 20mm of the front lower floor of the CD6000 compartment to allow it to clear the circuit boards on the back of the screen. I also had to pull the two chrome trims off that stick out either side of the compartment and cut away about 1cm of the plastic they were on. The reason for that was the "plastic tie" ends were fouling them, but I figure that if I have to re-fit the CD6000, these alterations will not stop me doing that.

Would love to though you have done an excellent job so far feel free to PM me if you dont want to fill up your install thread
