    Mercedes-Benz SLK R170

    01 MB SLK

    The ride.


    The problem...
    The interior in SLK is very compact. There is no place under the seats, nor in the central console. There is some space under the spare tire. I decided to locate the carputer there. Running the cables to the console was quite a thing- everything is cluttered by cables, hydraulics for the foldable roof. When I let myself go disassembling halve a car and looked at my doings, I felt terrified...


    The car-putter thingy.
    I made the case myself from a thick sheet of alloy. Came out very nice but took me few days to fabricate.


    The computer configutation.
    Opus 90W, Epia M10000, 256MB RAM (I found it optimal), BU303 GPSmouse, 80 GB HD, Audigy 2 nx
    USB powered hub, USB numeric keyboard, RF keyboard.

    This is Frodoplayer 1.09 with my skin. I didn't publish the skin as it doesn't have basic buttons- I am controlling it with usb numeric keyboard.


    As you can see the Xenarc is easily removable- it leaves silly looking connector when removed- kinda neat




    I didn't ruin the cupholder- it is still fully functional. I had to replace halve of it with fabricated alloy insert to make it stable.

    This is version 1.0 of my setup

    The lilliput was hard to remove so I didn't always had the nerve to hide it. It cought some thieve's eye when I left for literally 5 minutes. The story with lilliput left me buing new side window and a Xenarc (told my wife it is cheaper to calm her down a little). The audigy 2 nx was mounted upside-down (I thought I can use it's dials and a remote- bad idea- they're both useless)

    edit: I removed the picture of a trashed hood. It looks like it will be repaired quick, so let's forget it.

    lol i was looking at the roof - hood. not the bonnet! hehe

    Glad youhave a xnearc now, was thinking how could someone with a merc skimp on the screen and get a lilliput! But i would have to have the screen pop up out of that drink holder

    Well- about the bonnet - I was trying to put GPS under the mercedes logo (there is a hole if you look in the picture). The idea wasn't all bad, it was a very cold day so I decided to finish it later and I didn't screw the bonnet's fastener properly- wanted to drive 2 miles back home. The bonet openet at about 40 mph (I was driving very slow) and ruined itself. The hood (roof) is dented a little too. The good thing was that it didn't smash the windshield (that's how I try to comfort myself

    YOW!!! Bad luck with the hood, but the install is first rate! I especially like the floppy connector conversion. Two thumbs up on that! Give us a write up on that custom case, its really nice looking.
