    '92 Nissan 240SX TabletPC Install

Hello all. Just installed my TabletPC in my car a few days ago. Still working out a few things with it. Still need a PCMCIA DVD drive to mount under the headunit. I tried an IDE DVD drive connected to a USB2.0 PCMCIA card on the tablet...Video was very choppy, and sounded like crap. Right now I'm using the original laptop AC adapter and have it connected to a power inverter, but I'll evenually get a cig lighter AC adapter for it. I have a 40gig external USB drive that Im using for my music and ripped DVD's. The audio is connected to a hard wired FM modulator(connects directly to the antenna jack on HU). No frontend software yet. I just use musicmatch for mp3's and WinDVD to play the dvd(ifo) files. I have a D-link PCMCIA wirelessB card, which works great with netstumbler. Where the tablet is mounted, it picks up lots of wi-fi signals.
I would like to hook up the inverter directly to the battery...but Im not sure if it will drain the battery if the inverter stays on all the time(with nothing pluged into it)??
    Here are some pics.

Old-school car phone mounting post to hold tablet.

Inverter and USB hard drive in glove box.

Flexi-Cam...not sure why I would need that?

Everything setup with the tabletPC wireless keyboard.

LOL. My neighbor said the samething. Im thinking of re-mounting it lower and relocating the inverter behind the HU. More pics will come soon.

Now that I have this setup and working. Im thinking of ditching it and installing my old compaq in the hatch and getting a touchscreen LCD for the double DIN. Id probably move the headunit down and get a pullout vga touch for the top bay. If I got rid of the HU all together and put an LCD in its place, Id end up having a hard time touching the screen in 3rd and 5th gear.

As for the inverter issue. Im just going to have it connect directly to the battery and install a switch for it on the dash.

I've been running a similiar setup for the last five years. If you do decide to keep it, get the minidock and run all your peripherals from there. That way you can hit one switch and remove the tablet quickly.
