Honestly though, it seems like a very professional installation, but dang $15000? I'm not dissing you guys...if you can get the dough, why the heck not. I've seen lots of "professional quality" installations posted here (in particular, the BMW dash one) done for pennies, and personally I am much more impressed by those. Oh and Frodoplayer is the shiznits.

ZenerDiode. You make a good point, I am always more impressed people that do everything themselves. For years I was pulling apart laptops in my garage and modifying them so they would work in cars, but you run across so many little problems that you can never build them efficently enough to make them worth selling.

I am now a full time carputer guy and I am doing this professionaly (thank god I left my crappy network admin job). The customers I am finding want the best and are not about to argue over costs. They are know where near as technical as us and they want the job done right the first time. I remember as a carputer guy I use to hate those type of people but it's harsh economics that if I want to this full time I need these sort of people. And lets face it all of us wish we could play with carputers all day.

As for frodoplayer it's nice but our software has some neat stuff frodo's doesn't. I don't want to go in to detail until we are ready to release this to the public.

The sunlight readable 10.4" display was a prototype I got from All American. The display gets brighter as sun shines on it. I don't know if I would use it again there are $1500 reasons not to but it is by far the best display I've seen so far.

wow, when you say "gets brighter as the sun shines on it" is that some sort of transflective coating? and special mirrors, and lens sheets behind the tft panel? 1500?? ouch!!! that is crazy. nice work, And it is good to hear that anyone is getting to do this for a living! Damn, that's truly professional! I admire your creativity. Who cares about the cost, you managed to create something unique and the customer is pleased. Hell, I respect you guys for what you do, it takes guts to start a business like that.

Nice commodore, I grew up in Canberra/Australia and moved to the US 3 years ago. I have thought about importing a VX over here just because no one else has one and they are one of the nicest looking cars ever made.

I asked the owner if he was planning on doing any four wheelin but with all the stuff he's got in there we all know that's not going to happen. Guess this is another one of those huge four wheel drives that's just for looks.

I wanted to get some idea's for the MP3CAR community. We are trying to work out how we can make our software public and still have a viable business. Our software has taken four years to develop and I really beleive it's the best carputer software out there. (Frodoplayer I'm not knocking you, your software rocks. Castletek I am knocking you, Your software blows chunks). What makes our software different is the user is able to completly customize the look and feel. Everything can be changed. We support X10/USB Cameras, linking to third party applications/ avi's/VOB's/photo galleries/CD-Ripping with a local CCDB Database that names and rips the songs while automatically updating your music database and one of the coolest MP3/Jukebox players that is really easy to use and has features I haven't seen in any other media player period. I have 120,000 songs loaded and I can switch from song to song with out having to wait for anything to load.

I hope the members here understand that I do this professionaly and this is my only source of income. I am scared to relase this software publicly because of the chance someone will hack it and I will loose all the time and money I have invested developing it.

I would really like to give something back to the community that inspired me to start this business in the first place. I can't see a viable way I can make this freeware and I have been thinking about charging $29 for the software but I would need to sell at least 1000 copies just to keep the business alive. Anyone think there is enough interest out there? Are people will to pay for this?

I'm looking for idea's here. I'm not out to make a million dollars. If I could make enough money to pay the bills and keep developing this system I would be a happy guy.

What are the hardware requirements? $29 seems reasonable enough if the software is really as good as you put it. To me the two most important factors are speed and ability to customize the interface. I could care less about ease of use, fact is, I love all kinds of different settings that could be tweaked and my idea of a perfect carputer software is to be able to not just use skins, but to move stuff around and make my own interface out of the lego pieces provided.
I'm a programmer myself, I'm currently selling Pocket PC interfaces for profit, and I can assure you that piracy is no joke. Even at $6.99 per copy people will still try to crack it. Although that's my own fault for not putting any protection in place.
If you can create some bulletproof protection for your interface, you could lower the price slightly and sell it to people here. I bet there will be plenty of people interested (me included, after I upgrade my carputer). Just keep it up!
