I've even seen a PCI 2.0 card that you have to plug into your old USB 1.1 in order to draw the power from the bus. Retarded, if you ask me.

is there any other way to go about getting usb 2.0 for a laptop besides a pci card or whatever?

get a powered hub - but that wont be usb2, just whatever the usb it is running off.

what kind of monitor is that?

see the other rectangle below the laptop slightly larger than it? cooling fan for laptops :) Targus makes it, usb powered, i believe like 20-30 bucks. works great.
