2003 Dodge Ram CarPC with 15" In-dash LCD

There weren't any heat issues at all however there were issues with static electricity. We later removed the lower seat cushion, build up the sides to the same level with thin wood, carpeted it and raised the motherboard off the floor an inch or so.

The static was caused from the board being very close to the carpet and the PCI's close to touching the carpet on the underside of the seat cushion.

Unbelievable, I have a 05 Dodge RAM I want to do this to. I am not sure if I will go 15" I am thinking 10 inches and freeing up room for Media Reader and USB connection.

Moving the AC Controls seems easy enough but modding an enclosure for it is a bit out of my league.

I am suprised you are not having more heat issues what is your CPU temperature after a few hours running?

The CPU had no problem at all overheating. We ran 533fsb. 800fsb did get a bit hot. If you put your hand under the seat even on a hot day it still feels cooler than you'd think. I don't remember the temps we ran at but it wasn't anything more than a desktop normally does.

If you can do the molding for the screen you can do the molding for the heater. It isn't very hard at all. Just mount the factory plastic (cut to size) and get the right angle so it fits, glue it in place, use some plastic or whatever to fill in the gaps then bondo or epoxy.

I totally agree. Most other large monitors installations are not up to this quality.

I really like the computer location too. If any heat problems rise then I would just put a fan or two on the back of the case and that should do it.

I am switching out my sound system from stock to custom. So I might have one for sale soon. Depends on the funds!

We had a VW Beetle for about a month that we had some big plans for but after breaking down in the middle of Iowa next to a Ford dealership and being forced to tow the car back home since the Ford guys wouldn't touch it we decided it'd be best to squash the bug

We ended up getting a good deal on a 2003 Dodge Ram

So... once time allows I'll be posting project pics for our 15" Dodge Ram v2! We've got more planned including a rear view monitor to replace the mirror, cameras, detachable stereo face mounted near the info center and maybe an Xbox

love your job man. Im in the middle of doing the exact same thing but with a mac mini. I was bummed out when i found all of your info after i had gotten into it, 1, because i wanted to be the first (i have seen only one other) and 2, because it would have made for a nice head start already knowing what i should do.

Thanks! These Ram's are great to work on. I also own a 2000 Eclipse which is going to be worked on either during or after the Ram job. The Ram is mainly driven by my business partner so I can't let him have all the fun!
