2001 Jetta CarPC Worklog

Work Started ~5/10/05:

Heres are the specs of the PC, the Mobo and Case are still on order, will be here friday...

VIA EPIA 800
2x128MB PC100
10.2GB SpinPoint HD
Audigy Gold
Casetronic 2699R

Whistler 140w Inverter
Microsoft MN-710 Wireless G USB Adapter
Generic Black IR/Optical Laptop Mouse
Pustom 7.8" LCD Screen w/ Remote
Cony CDXM880 Headunit w/ Stock Monsoon Speakers getting 52wX4

The PC will be held under the passenger glovebox and i have a custom power button with red LED to indicate that its still ON (Youll see in the pic)

Agenda for Friday, 5/13/05:

-Wire neons to headunit, so they turn on only when ignition is on.
-Accept package from UPS with Mobo+Case

-Install XP SP2 and nLite it, Install Centrafuse.
-Install CarPC and hide wires.
-Wash car, detail inside.
-Find a nice place on the beach to take pictures for Saturday afternoon.

I like the body style of the Jettas. They are very clean looking. Are they easy to get into/upgrade?

Hey, good start!

I've got a question...

Is there any room for a Cd receiver under the AC controls if one would decide to mold a 7" VGA screen on the top? I'm thinking a Jetta GLS ('00-'02) might become my next car. Just curious.

Also, where are the cup holders?

No theres no room for anything under there, its maybe 4" deep and theres a harness and metal behind it, aside from the 12v socket and an ashtray. The cupholders are the silver bar above the headunit pocket ontop of the HU. You push the silver bar and they slide out, and lower to ebcome two cupholders. The newer models dont have this, they have a center console holder.

And yes, Jettas are very easy to work with, panel wise. Routing my Sub wiring under the door jams was a snap (literally, 4 clips) and doing all this panel removal for the wiring is merely 6 hex screws.

I dont see a worklog section?

All i see is fabrication, and thats quesitons about materials. If a mod wants to move this, thats cool. Itll be finished in only a few days tho

Jettas are nice looking is that a VR6?

the worklog is a subforum, at the VERY VERY top of the show off project forum. You think it will be done in a few days but we all know, you can predicit the future : )
