Thread: (AUS) BMW E36 Extensive Customisation

Hey guys been reading these forums for a while whilst putting together my carpc.

Here is some info... and some progress shots of the dash and 12" Touchscreen to date. Its all off at the trimmers at the moment, so once it gets back I'll post updated pics.

The system is still effectively built for Sound Quality primarily, but will be completely controlled from a CAR PC system that I have built up and am still in the process of finalising.

To start with a 12" touchscreen LCD screen is being grafted into the dashboard in place of the aircon/heater controls, headunit and previous place of the navigation.

This screen drives the entire audio / navigation system and other computer controlled interfaces. Essentially it is Windows XP stripped down of non-vital components and running a customised version of Media Engine designed for CAR PC applications.

The computer is a P4 2.0Ghz with onboard video, lan etc, with a 60gb HDD (for XP) and 200Gb slave drive. My Blaupunkt Navigation inputs into the computer and outputs also on the PC screen when required. I'm also running wireless networking to be able to update the CAR PC from inside the house.

From the Sound Blaster Audigy sound card we have a digital signal feeding into the Precision Power external DAC. This converts the high resolution digital signal back to RCA's and then into an Audiocontrol MVC to allow analog volume control.

The on to the rest of my audio setup which includes the existing horns in the front, along with Dynaudio 8" mids up front (soon to be installed).
