I'm pretty sure our alternator puts out 80amps. I purchased an isolator rated for 95amps.

    Power Requirements

I found some OEM Alternator retailers too, rating them at 80Amps. How much do our cars have available? Counting the Low Beams, Fog Lamps, Tail lights, Ignition, Engine Control, they all add up. I'd hate to be running off batteries and not knowing it. Have you upgraded you alternator yet?

I haven't found it necessary to upgrade my alternator. I have all my accessories running off an auxiliary battery anyway (which gets charged by my alt)

Hello, A few quick questions for you guys. I've been following this thread and other similar ones very very closely.
I also have a 05 Corolla and a carputer in the works. I've almost got it completed but I have a few questions about power issues.
You say you don't need to upgrade your alternator and that you use an isolater to charge a battery to run it all?
I seached around for a tut or something to clear up the isolator install but couldn't find anything worth reading.
Could someone link me to something or help me to understand it myself?
I am just curious on where to get it and how to install it. I Googled it but couldn't find much that I understood.

    Thanks a bunch

Mr. Beta. the SurePower site is a great resource for issues like this. here are a couple links for you from there:

awesome install man. i also like the built box to hide away the pc and battery. I kinda wish I had a trunk to do that with... kind of hard to hide away a battery and still keep the back space of my suv open for use. also hafta say you were brave to replace all the dash lights!

hey thanx for the comments reiner, yea, it took a little more work on the dash lights than I had wanted to put in, but it turned out alright

    Mr Beta,

I'll post what I'd posted in SniperXX's worklog about my screen fab:

Then I cut the scosche din adapter like so:

as you probably guessed I also cut the pocket off, but it was hard to draw the line in the right place in the pic. anyways, the bottom cut is to allow the lcd (ONLY the lcd, not with the controller board) through, BARELY though, there is some tension that holds the lcd up, along with the metal brackets on the backside of the front of the lilliput housing. (when you cut the housing where I marked, the mounts for the metal brackets aren't cut off). Then I epoxied the lcd frame to the scosche frame and bondo'd. If you're worried about the lcd "falling", there is a space in the dash where you could put a wood support to hold the lcd up. (i'm probably going to do this, but it hasn't been too necessary yet) Anyways, hope this gives you a better picture of one possibility.

Very clever. I might have to steal that idea for my own project.
    Thx

how to get at the pillar?

ok sorry this is not 100% related to this post but you guys might be able to help me out here.

i have a 2003 corolla S, and i am installing a parrot 3200LS color (http://www.parrot.biz/usa/products/3200ls-color) tonight. i actually have a bluetooth already installed (by tweeter) which i will be removing and replacing with the parrot.

anyway - the wire for the mic on the existing bluetooth device goes behind my dash over to the passenger side and then runs behind the plastic molding on the pillar separating the windshield and the side window (what is that called?), and then along under the headliner. the problem is that for the life of me i cant figure out how they got that wire behind the molding on that pillar (and how to get it out). how the heck to i get that pillar apart?

any advice would be appreciated. perhaps eventually i can get a setup like bulgogi777 - thats some slick stuff! nice pics!

sorry, don't know specifically how to get that portion off, 'cause I didn't have to wire anything up that way... but for reference, the bottom part (that column by the floor) just pops off. It uses those white tab things to keep the plastic together...
