Another car ready for the next melbourne meet

speaking of the melbourne meet, we might have to make one around early December. I usually head down to Winton raceway for a bike trackday. I should be able to extend the trip to come and see some of you guys.

Here are some pics.

1) The original unmodified surround. The one I ended up using was red. This brown one is the one in my ute at the moment. Yes the interior is brown But I tell you that the red interior the the donor facia came from is worse!!!


2) The screen. It's a 629GL. (new 2005 model)


3) Not a real good pic, but you can see that I have trimmed all the plastic around the back of where the radio sits


4) This is a better pic of what I have done. There was also a mount just above where the cig lighter goes that I removed to fit the screen. Circled in red.


5) Screen trial fitted. Still need to make the brackets to fit it properly.


I wanted to keep the screen intact to keep the warranty valid. Also I am going to make it stealth by making a plate to sit infront of the screen when I am not in the car. This plate will have a hacked front off an old stereo so that it is not too obvious. I have also used vinyl spray to change the colour of the surround to grey. I still have to finish off painting the black part of it when it stops raining.

top job.. i'm doing the very same thing.. im not up for these body filler jobs..
i wana try and make the screen angle up towards me a little.. i'll have to have a play.. but its goot to see it fits in pretty nicely.. thaks for them, hopefull i have something to show in the next few weeks.

and what bike you ride? I've got a NSR250 which ive had for about 2 years,, spend to much money on the pc to upgrade..
im in the long process of making it look clean again so i can sell it cus the k's are clocking up to fast..

Not sure you will really need to angle it towards you. But it would be interesting to see what you thing once it is installed. I tried to body filler my old screen into the radio surround. Let's just say I bought another radio surround I wasn't happy with the result at all. Most off all it didn't really fit into the whole stealth install idea.

As for the bikes, I have 2. My road going bike is a RG250 with a RZ350 motor. RG250 was the predecessor to the RGV. A fun little bike. It's quite deceptive . The track bike is a '98 ZX6R, that I am in the process of trying to sell as a track bike. Hasn't been too sucessful yet, so I might put all the road gear back on it and sell it registered.

the 350cc motor a 2stroke? sould be a bit a fun

i just noticed something about your screen,, how u gonna use the buttons??

i rang up for a radio surroud today.. only 1 place out of about 15 i called had one, that was slightly cut arroud the radio hole which isnt bad.. but he wanted $65 for it!.. seemed a little steep..
but no dout i will proble be back there in a few days celecting it.

yeah the 350 is a 2stroke. A mate of mine owned it before me and had the power valve locked open. Now that was fun. Boy did that power band kick in

I am not going to use the buttons at all. If need be I will use the remote by putting a small hole in the plastic. The new lilliputs have auto power on so I don't think I really need to change any of the settings.

I bought my radio surround for $10. I could see if he has another one and send it to you if you can't find one cheaper than that. Let me know.

that would have been nice and claggy down low..

i havent even switched my sceen on yet.. i might see if i will even need the buttons also??

here is the resin soaked cotton streched over my mold drying..
its a frezzing night as most of u know so i had to set up a lil heater, other wise it will never dry
