with that screen r u gonna put bondo or anything to make a nice smooth mold? if so...theres something u can do about theft.
hot glue some razor blades behind it...when someone trys to rip it out, there gonna leave some blood stains. easy way yto see who did it, not a lone a very funny way to see how angry one will get for stealing your stuff.

my brothers friends dd that to his eclipse. put it hehind all his gauges and headunits.

Yeah, clearly the next step on the hardware front is to do something about the screen. I agree that will be huge to prevent theft. Basically, I have no experience doing fiberglass / bondo work so there will be a bit of a learning curve there.

Also, I think that the neon might not make it much past this winter. I burns oil, idles hard. So I'm starting to look at new cars.

The idea of making a cage, fiberglassing it, and doing all the finish work does not seem as appealing if the car dies a week after I do all that!

But, the whole point of me doing this to the neon was that I could make mistakes, learn, etc - so I'll probably do the fiber/bondo work in there so that I do a better job in the new car.

    Thanks for looking...

no doubt. Plus, how long until you forget some of your own boobie traps and slice your fingers all to hell.

I still like the "fog machine" and the "monkey in the trunk" ideas.

Hey Hateeecs, this project is looking good. I have a 97 Neon myself and I'm going to be starting my project once I get enough money. I read that you're thinking of relocating the AC vents, hopefully you can share how you go about doing this because thats something I'm planing on doing and have no clue yet on how to do it. If I don't move the vents the 2nd solution could be a motorized LCD with mount where the radio is so it would be in front of the AC vents. Good luck on your project keep us informed !

    Hey Mic4,

Sadly, the neon has gone to the car heaven. After many looming issues with the Neon I decided to get a new car and trade it in. I now have an 05 altima that I just recently put my existing setup in. I'll start a new thread for that I suppose.

Anyway, I just simply blocked the middel AC vents. I considered the motorized screen idea but i think that it does not look very good and read that some where having mechanical problems with the motor after a while. To do it right you would probably cut out a spot on the dash where the middle vents are and then reroute the vents to be on the side of the screen. This will all require a bunch of interior fiber/bondo/paint work and might not look that great. Unfortunately, there is just not that much room for the screen. Good luck!
