I have finally installed my carpenter and I just though Iíd share some pictures with you boys and girls.
The system consists of the following parts:
1. Lilliput touch screen VGA monitor.
2. Car pc unit consisting of
a. VIA Epia MKII 1200 motherboard
b. M1 ATX power supply
c. Home made shutdown controller
d. Home made monitor power supply
e. Slim DVD player
f. 40 gig 2.5 inch Samsung HD
g. 512 mb memory
3. Holux GM-210 GPS mouse (USB)
4. Sylfex Auxmod unit
1. WinXP PRO
2. RoadRunner Front End
Since the factory look is what I was after, I decided to buy the whole map pocket from my Mazda dealer and fabricate it to look like the stock navi unit as I could.
I added two inserts on the inside of the map box unit which reduced the space around the VGA screen, so the screen looked that it belonged in there.
The buttons of the screen were removed and the IRE sensor was placed in one of the inserts. Using the remote control of the screen I can adjust it without the need of the buttons.
The screen was mounted on the top lid, using a spring-loaded hinge. When the lid is opened the screen folds down. To close the lid I just have to push on the bottom of the screen and it folds back in. I tried to make this thing motorized but it would not work just right so I gave up and went the manual route.
The carputer is mounted under the rear parcel shelf (where the bose sub is usually installed).
The GPS mouse is mounted under the center brake light (inside the car)
The sound of the carputer is fed to the stock stereo system with the use of the Sylfex AuxMod unit.
Power to the carpc comes from a cable that goes trough the fire wall (trough the wiring harness) and ends up in the trunk to the pcb using a quick remove connector.
The LCD power and signals go from the trunk to the LCD on the passengerís side.
The audio signal also is routed from the passenger side to the stock head unit.
All the cables used to for the audio signal and the LCD controls, power and signal are high quality cables with external shields in order to minimize interference.
The whole system runs with XP and Roadrunner as the front end. A custom-made Skin for Roadrunner finished of the whole setup.
