That's cool. A lotta people say bad things about Fords. I wish they understood how nice of cars they are after:

Just kidding with ya, I own/drive a Ford too. I'm glad to see you're passionate about your ride like everyone else is here. Definately keep us posted with new pics, and if you'd like to add your car to my site, let me know!

I've done some house of color work..... let me tell you, the stuff is awsome, but it doesn't go very far..... most normal paints are 1:1 1/2- 1:2 mix ratio..... the hok stuff is 1:1/2... it takes a lot of material to do a job w this stuff.... my guess is the guys estimate of a gallon each stage is a little on the conservative side... if you try to do this with only 3qts each you may run into problems with uneven coverage..... especially what you are calling stage 3 (which is really stage 2, the primer don't count, technically this is a three stage paint job)

another thing to keep in mind is when working with the 2nd stage, because it is translucent you have a lot of problems with even coverage... if youv'e never worked with it before be extra carful of this.... if you paint it like normal you can wind up with a lot of headaches.... for example if you spray a jamb you will overspray the qtr... then when you spray the side the qtr will have an extra coat.... end result is the qtr don't match the door right next to it.....

there are other points of note here.... for example overlap is an issue..... don't mean to turn this into a paint lesson, & maybe your guy isa good enough to know most of this..... but I can tell you that it is EXTEMELY difficult to get excellent results the first time working with this stuff..... you have to be very cautious of even coats in the 2nd(translucent) stage..... also this goes back to using a lot of material..... to really have even coverage you will need at least three nice coats..... a gallon is very conservative est....

    good luck...

LOL, seems the only way a Ford is any good is after you replace all its moving parts.

You do realise my car isnt a cossie, right?

Its an american only taurus. 3.8 litre EFI lol.

Whale tales looked absolutely delicious on those older cossies, those older cossies are gorgeous and worth a ton of money now if you can find a good one (very hard).

However, on a sedan those large spoilers look like hell, I just want something that hugs the shape and compliments the car and doesnt make it look like a POS.

Infact, the whole idea of this car is to prove once and for all that you can spend very little on a big yank car and make it look nice.

I CANT STAND those dumb ***** honda boys who pull up in wawa with a half painted car with rainbow panels blasting POS stereos and sporting an enormous aluminium spoiler, its SO GAY.

Parts for my car cost pennies, it's like buying parts for a UK ford fiesta, the taurus is Ford's best selling US car in history so there's plenty of them.

And finding a 3.8 EFI is becoming harder to do, they only made that engine for a couple of years because it was too big and juicy for the clientelle who were driving it (hence my project name granny killer rofl).

As for options, my car is optioned out the ***, electric everythings, dual air bags, dual leccy seats and dual lumbar (to those of you in the UK lumbar is basically inflatable seatback, a very nice option when youre sticking your arse in the seat for a few hours..

Another thing I want to prove once and for all is that car modding isnt about excess, its about taste, you cant pump loads of cash into a car and make it good you need to have taste and take your time.

So guys, do you think this will help me score with chicks?

    AWESOME post, thankyou VERY much.

It's nice to find someone who has been where I am and can offer me cash/time saving advice, Im a measure ten times shoot once kind of chap (it's my age ) so I like to take time to make sure I know what Im aiming at..

I am aware of mottling/streaking (as hok call it) when using your FX layer. I have researched this in detail and have found a nice workaround that will not only save time but it will save me cash too..

I am not going to have the doorjams painted, instead I am going to use rustoleum ( cant remember its uk name ) thinned with terps and paint the jams and all inconspicuos areas with a painting sponge, then when dry Ill p 1000 it and laquer it.

I dont have the time for all the mess, faffing about that spraying the jams entails, Id much rather use a sponge and keep things clean, I DONT want overspray in the motor lol..

Thanks alot for the advice, I havent yet been able to find anyone experienced with HOK who can offer solid advice

EDIT : Rustoleum = smoothrite but in the USA its about ten times cheaper lmao
So guys, do you think this will help me score with chicks?

Hot Rod magazine defines ugly a few different ways.....
    1.Ugly by design,as an example,a '79 Grand Prix.
2.Ugly by execution,i.e.,it was an ok looking vehicle before owner modifications.

I personally prefer stealth,as my old man once said "chrome won't get ya home,or the other guys' pinkslip"
