It's the sedan version of the Clio, and it has the same interior as yours.

Nice ideea about the fake facia, but it would be really hard to do, as you have to recess the screen a bit more, and I'm not sure how good that would look with the facia off.

    I see.

Yeah the fake fascia would sit in the gaps that are left in the top and bottom of the screen, it wouldnt have to be the whole width as long as it coverd the actual tft section and the buttons, its only to deter theives darting past, maybe on a closer look someone would see somthing else might be behind it, but would it be worth breaking in to find out.

Plus im in the process of finding someone to tint the windows, so that should reduce visibility into the car as well.

I wouldnt bother but my mate had a £40 cd player stolen from his car recently.

Yet another Clio owner! Congrats on a job well done You may want to look into mounting the pc under the front seat, just like the stock cd changer. The stock changer is fitted onto a metal bracket which can be bought as a spare part.

I have the later model Clio and the proper Haynes service guide, yet I don't have the guts to remove the lower part of the dash. According to Haynes it's a very elaborate job, so I am trying to get the wiring done with only the upper part of the dash removed. Shouldn't be too much of a problem. I want to tap into the fusebox for power and reaching the back of the box might prove difficult, but we'll see.

A little question, as you are obviously familiar with taking things apart...

The uncoated open space in the middle of my windshield is insufficient for good GPS reception, so I am planning on installing my GPS antenna in the space under the black plastic panel which covers the wiper mechanism. I've removed the wipers and the panel comes off easily, revealing the perfect place for GPS and WiFi antennas. However, how would you run the cables to the interior without drilling any holes? All the wiring from under the bonnet goes through a big rectangular rubber cap with a screw in the center. After loosening the screw, the cap sort of feels like a big connector which could be pulled off. I haven't actually tried this cause I'm afraid that unplugging things will affect the electronics or set off any airbags or something My Haynes manual doesn't cover this particular part of the wiring, so I was wondering if you could tell me if it is a connector or just a rubber cap protecting the hole the wires run through.

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!

My sister bought a clio after haveing a few shots in mine, hers is a mark 3 as well, so ill have a look next time she has got it round.

I have a bu303 gps mouse and its mag mounted to the chassis frame behind the speedo and wot not, there is some thick foam there, almost the same depth as the gps receiver, I tore a small peice of that out and put my gps in there, even with the top half of the dash on I get a good enuff gps signal for navigation. Unfortunatly in my haste I didnt take a photo of this.

And as for wifi I just connect a mag mount 8db omni aerial I have and stick it on the roof when I need it.

With regard to safety and airbags and stuff, if your going to tinker with anything disconnect the negative battery lead and leave for 5mins as according to the haynes manual it take a little time for the airbags to discharge or somthing.

HAynes is your friend if you follow the steps logically and docment as you go you should be ok, I wouldnt want to be drilling anything to the outside if I could help it.

First you'll need a pulley extractor to get the wipers off. Mark their original positions. The plastic covers come off by pulling out 2 black clips that look like screws. To get to the rubber cap I mentioned, you'll have to put aside the wiper mechanism (2 bolts) and the wiper fluid tank (1 bolt). Anyway, your sister might disapprove

My Initiale has a coated heat reflecting windshield. It pretty much blocks out GPS. There's a special unshielded area for toll road passes and such, but it's not big enough to get a clear GPS view, unless you stick the mouse directly to the glass with suction cups or something.

I have one of those too, but I like the idea of installing one permanently.

That's what my Haynes says too, but it also mentions some essential reprogramming procedure by someone specialized if the so called "multi timer unit" (located under the fusebox) is disconnected.

Btw, why is Haynes so specific about disconnecting the negative battery pole instead of the positive? I can't think of any reason.

Yeah my sister probably would give me a ticking off if I started pulling bits off her car, she prob think I broke somthing on mine and was stealing "bits".

Well in my car, once you got the dash off it was easy to access the fuse box. I had toyed with putting the fuses in there but I wasnt sure how to "plug" in to the spare empty ports.

Im also unsure as to why the Negative is the one to be disconected, as when I first started mucking about with the car I disconected the positive, but when I read that and it seemd so adamant that it was the negative I went and disconnected that as well !

Haynes manual is like military 101 when it comes to airbags, feels like your handling some sort of weapons grade plutonim thats highly volatile, having said that mines went back in again no problem and the warning lights went off.
