    2001 Lexus IS300 (OEM Install)

Hey guys .......... and girls !

I have just finished my install, into my Lexus IS300.

I kept the OEM Sat-Nav screen, and got a convertor to convert both the audio and video into the sat nav screen ............ sounds, and looks fantastic !

I'm running the EPIA 1.2GHZ, 512MB RAM, 120GB HDD, and ...... as I don't have the touch screen, I just got a cheapo trackball type thing for a fiver from Maplin ! (UK)

Here are some pics ............... awaiting feedback !

Sorry ... should have included more pics !

    Here is the trackball :

And that is a 4 channel switcher remote in the ashtray ........ the convertor util has four inputs (incl sat nav) so I have one for the car pc .... one for sat nav ..... I will be using the other for a reversing camera ... and the other one, well .... I will just have to think of something to put in that !

    Few questions...

1.) Your screen shots look very clean What is the Nav converter (is it like navtv.com) you're using? Do you have a website I can research it?
2.) What do you use the remote for specifically? Does it interface with the Nav converter to switch inputs?
3.) The computer text on your nav screen looks pretty clear. Do you use the composite out of your video card to interface with the converter?
4.) How did you interface the sound? It's pretty difficult working with a Lexus, did you just output via a FM modulator or installing an AUX input adapter?

    Sweet install!!!

Thanks for the responses guys ........... !

To answer a few of your questions ............

I cut out the square for the fan, as I wanted a diamond look about it ... it's a fanless m/b, so doesn't need it, but I just thought it looked better !

Noise, there is very little noise from the fan, when there is no sound coming out ..... but when you have music on, you can't hear anything ! (the fan noise that is !)

The nav convertor was made by a freind of mine, he is an electronics guru. The unit will be for sale commercially pretty soon, mine is the 2nd one built, so I'm kind of testing it .... but it's fantastic, the quality is great !

As for the remote control, well the convertor unit is set to auto convert the sat nav screen to the car PC on start up. If I then want to use the sat nav, I can press the button on the remote, and that will switch the signal back over to the OEM sat nav ! and I can even still have the car puter mp3's playing in the back ground !

Audio, I'm not using no FM modulator ! ..... this is an AUX in adapter that was built buy the same person who built the AV convertor ! the guy is a genius to say the least !

This site is really usefull btw ............. keep it up peeps !

what did u use to cover the glove box? is it cardboard or something else and then what did u cover that with is it leather or something the pics rnt so clear but man thats a nice install...the screen spot on the is300 would be a pain in the *** to reach for so i dont think i would use a touch either
