2003 Ford Falcon BA (Australia)

Ok

I know this looks a bit dodgey but it was the best i could come up with.
The BA Falcon has a integrated radio & HVAC screen in the centre of the dash. The unit cannot be removed making it difficult to find a spot for the Touch screen.

I have decided to mount it straight over the top of the old screen. I cannot see the radio display or the HVAC controls which is a bit dodgey but will have to do for the moment.

The PC is an E-Vectra that I have sitting in the boot. Runs of a laptop 12V car adapter (The E-vectra is a 19V PC).

Works well. except that the power supply does not survive crank which means I have to hibernate everytime I want to crank the engine. eek!

Anyway here are some pics... any ideas on how to improve would be greatly appriciated.

hey, not bad mate. i have seen some guys modify their screen in their BA to take a RCA conection for an XBOX, maybe you could do that, then add a touchscreen over top. i dont know if they have a switch or what to be able to still use the HVAC controls though.

Couple of Qs:
How is the carptuer hooked into the audio system?
And in the boot, looks like the floor is lower in the centre?

Maybe using a rotating actuator arm, you can get the screen to flip up over the air vents when you want to use the controls undernearth. I dunno just me rambling on lol

The audio is linked into the factory sound system, which luckily has an audio in jack.

The boot has a sunken centre. which is really wierd. I could probably mount the carputer in the sunken bit, so its out of sight, but I figured it would get better ventilation where it is sitting now.

Yeah I was thinking of making some kind of folding arm.... thats the next project!

Looks good. It would look much nicer, if you could relocate that OEM display, and fab the screen in there...

Or maybe you can fabircate the screen into a little pod above the air vents. So you'll have to make the pod and cut into the dash above that then bondo or something it all together...

Orrr take the screen out of its housing, and make up one of these.

Bob, thats great, where did you get the shroud from? did you make it yourself?


I would need to get a lilput if that was the case.

How is the viewing angle down there? Seems a little too low...
