Yet another WRX install.

here are some pics from my carputer install in my 2002 WRX. the system used is is a PIII 800mhz, 256mb ram, 9gb laptop hd, onboard video, USB audio. i wanted the computer to be tucked away somewhere so i can't see it... so i decided to stick it under the passenger seat. i had to build a custom box for it so i had soem acrylic professionally cut. i'll start with pics from building the computer.

i used the regular stand-offs to attach the motherboard in place

i drilled small holes in the acrylic and forced the stand-offs in with pliers

to glue the pieces together, i used weld-on acrylic glue, applied using a syringe

a hole saw was used to cut a hole on top to mount the case fan

hole cut out for 80mm fan

drilled holes for the case fan screws

TIME TO INSTALL!

stupid radio antenna was too short, had to buy an extension

center console, shift knob assembly taken apart to run wires

head unit was relocated to the top of the dash. eveything put back together.

perfect fit under the passenger seat

direct power from the battery for the 150watt opus PSU

ran power cable through the center console as well

i grouded the psu on the bolt that supports the passenger seat

initial power-on test. everything's a huge mess

"where's my air bag?!? WHERE'S MY AIRBAG?!?!" had to disconnect the airbag in the passenger seat to remove chair

awesome work man. I have some questions.... How did you screw in the standoffs like that? Also, how did u screw in the hinges... everytime i try it starts to crack. Awesome work

for the standoffs... i drilled holes that were a little bit smaller than the thread. then i just used pliers and forced it into the hole.

the hinges weren't screwed on. they're glued on using the same weld-on acrylic glue. it's actually stronger than you might think.
