Thread: VW Passat '97 CarPC

Hey MaVa_DK,

I really like the way you have moulded the screen into the dash.
How did you do this? Have you got some info/pics on that?

I was planning to mould my screen in dash as well.
Knowing that VW has an original faceplate for their OEM Nav, I thought it would be good idea to go and get one and modify it slightly.
At the dealer's they told me the price for it: € 140 (something around $150 ) without VAT. Not really the price I was looking for...
Second problem: these types faceplates are rather rare as used parts, because the satnav is a rather expensive option.

Therefore I am kind of interested in how you made your faceplate.
Maybe I should add this as a remark. My aircon is located in the upperpart and on the bottom I have a little storage compartment. So I will have to alter the compartment to fit the aircon. I think this is going to be the difficult part.

I commend you on your music choice! Bloom is very good!

Sorry but I haven't been able to continue my work on the skin yet. As soon as I have progressed, I'll post an update in this thread.

Yesterday I was able to continue my work on my skin.
I finished the menu screen.

If I may, a few suggestions...
1. I think it would look nicer if you toned down the shadows a little bit.
2. In the main menu, how it would look without those lines to every option?
3. The play/stop/ffd/prv/pause buttons would look better in the middle, or at least on the left part. That way it would be easier to reach.
4. Have you tried using other fonts?

Overall the skin looks great!

I am not really sure what you mean with "the shadows" but I guess it is the bevel effect on the menu items you are talkin about.

For myself I prefer to have them on the right. Because I often skip a track while driving. If the "next" button is to be found on the right, you just have to feel for the bottom-right corner of the TFT. That way you can keep your eyes on the road.
And it would not make much sense putting the next button in the bottom-left corner, now would it.

Arial is for most purposes my favourite: a bit rounded, clear, plain and simple.
But on on my opinion it did not really suited this skin.
So I tried a few fonts and this was the first one that I kinda liked for it.
I have used it so far in the other parts of the skin and want to have the same "style" for every screen.
If you have any suggestions for a font let me know and I'll try to make an example. We can see how it works out.
