Eh, it's an ok install. It doesn't grab me really cause I've always been against things that don't look OEM. To me it signifies laziness. That's just me though. Other than that, it's good.

But once again I need to come back to your "Real" notation. This is not a real install in terms of mp3car.com. You bought/got all the stuff that is already made to be dropped into a car. Nothing wrong with that, just not real to me. It's like dropping a laptop in and saying "yay, now I have installed a carputer". When you start getting the dudes with custom fabbing in their rides (myself included), that's real to me. Yours was a kit.

No offense, and good install. I wouldn't mind having the keyboard.

Only other thing would be to mount the actual PC somewhere else, a guy's gotta have his glovebox space.

#3, the very fact that you asked that question, leads me to believe you dont know what amateur radio is, are NOT a licensed amateur radio operator, and is NOT someone who should be "listening to police bands".... if you want to "listen to the police bands" go buy a scanner, it'll be cheaper...
a cop installing his own equipment ( in a state issues vehicle) ,a cop car ( usually done by pd maintenance) and giving civilians advice on how to hack the police band ...hhhhmmmmmmmmm you see where im going with this ............

lol, thats what cop cars look like with the standard computers in them...so this is very much OEM in that respect, it looks very identical to the way it would be originally. I love the simple install, don't mind the haters.

lol.. that is just filled with assumptions and (in)correctness..........(I'll let you guess what's right and what's wrong)

    1.I never stated I was a "cop"
2.I never stated it was my equipment
3.I never stated it was a state issued car
4.I never stated it was a "cop car"
5.I never stated it was maintained by "fleet" or FMD (Fleet Maintenance Division)
6.I never gave "civilians advice on how to hack the police band"

no, I dont see where you're going with this, lol

    there is no "police band".......

different agencies operate on different frequencies, different BANDS, different TYPES, wether they be analog conventional, or Astro Smartzone-Omnilink "trunked" systems... they're all different....

some yahoo , getting a "2m ham radio" and modifying it to transmit on "police band" is not a good idea, from ANY perspective. If you're not an amateur radio operator, you shouldnt have amateur radio equipment, period....I should know, I am an amateur radio operator... among other things....

SO.....instead of him interfering with communications, getting arrested, fined, and otherwise , I just told him to get a scanner, maybe he's a whacker that'll show up at the next accident scene or structural fire or whatnot, he'll be taken care of quickly......

    that is all

same with the emergency lighting.... if the MDT crashes for whatever reason, then I have no lights, you need to have a manual backup... switches are manual....
    Computer crash ???
    Is there a complete anti-virus system ?

jparks, apparently i was wrong about you and your setup. These mere mortals cannot appreciate the work you have done, or the law enforcement knowledge you have. I can see it, now. You are a genius way ahead of your time. Your work shows creativity and depth beyond anything we've seen before. They are just jealous of your talents, and your connections to the people who keep us safe every day. Furthermore, all your smart and witty responses to this dastardly and unfound criticism have been a turning point in my life. I am truly touched by the experience of reading this thread. I will print it, fold it up, and keep it in my pocket. I will have it with me always to remember the epitome of perseverance and brilliance.

    I dig the whole setup.

I've always wanted a Police Interceptor Crown Vic, and if I had the money I'd set it up exactly the same way. Good job on a police-type install.

What color are the side-view mirror strobes? Also, what is it that appears to be attached to the front window below the rear-view mirror?

    actually, they're LED's, and they're RED/BLUE

Also, what is it that appears to be attached to the front window below the rear-view mirror?
it's a K-band Radar antenna, used with the K-band radar unit....used to track vehicle speed....

    Computer crash ???
    Is there a complete anti-virus system ?
yup, complete antivirus system, most recent updates, etc.
since it has a dynamic IP, and behind a firewall, virii are the least of my worries....

unfortunately, none of my "required software", or other "fun" things are made for *nix, so I'm stuck with winblows, at least its 2KPRO and not ME or '98, or god forbid, XP.

Dude... using all of that mumbo jumbo I think made their heads explode

...and sometimes I wonder why I joined this forum. People left and right bashing a colleauge's automation setup, simply because it doesn't fit the slim form of one particular person's view on how they think an 'mp3car' setup should look like. Shallow and ego tripping people you are, and you know who I'm talking about.

In regards to the police radio / ham radio gear, in some jurisdictions it's illegal to even have a scanner installed in a car. Also, if you're asking if ham radio gear will recieve police conversations... you obviously don't have a license to even be operating a ham radio transciever. I can pull up multiple cases where unlicensed operators have been fined and jailed for illegally using ham radio spectrum, and causing interference in bands where even ham radio operators can't use.

If you have constructive criticisim for the install, please feel free to post it. If you're here just to bash and not offer advice on things, keep your ego to yourself and go bash something else.

If you want more info on the lighting setup that is installed in this car, go to elightbars.org. They'll love to have you in their group.

Mh that's not completely true, first time i came here some people were constructive in comments, some not but the most of them are nice and to be honest i didn't yet found someone nasty here. Have a look at the topics where members helps each other...
After that i think that what started all this noise is much more due to the word "real" suggesting that other's work is not real.
