Now is it 1TB of disk on RAID 1 giving you 500GB of useable space, or 2TB of disk on RAID 1 giving you 1TB of useable space? Or is it multiple drives drives in RAID 0? Or are you doing something crazy like RAID 0+1?

I will def. post some pics, but still in the planning stages. I have all the parts and the addtional dash pieces (love the junk yards) and I've CAD the center console/dash. I've just got to put it into reality. I've been having trouble with the HU placement, and have been considering removing, but I like the way you side mounted your face on the center console. I might give that a try.

Yeah...we spent many a dusty day in the junkyard...

We have absolutely NO head unit...just an alpine controller that is velcroed to the side of the center console so we can remove it and anyone in the car can use it.

Here's what I've come up with so far.
What are you using for fm reception, without a HU?
What are you using for you wardriving?

Does both TV and Radio, plus depeding on which software you use, you can get TIVO functions as well....

The reason I don't have a head unit is I don't need one...we went for complete replacement with a high-quality EQ unit. Also, I wanted DTS and Dolby Digital/AC3 surround sound, so the Alpine unit has the built in decode functions. I go optical from the sound card direct into the alpine "black box" in the canoe. The controller is basically for volume control (I leave the PC output cranked as it is the limiting factor - dynamic range-wise).

Additionally, for wardriving, I use a custom made omni antenna with a Linksys card and use NetStumbler with my GPS to locate AP's. I usually keep it off because its so powerful, it puts transients into my music/movie sound, so I just enable it when I want to.

Great design. What about cooling? Where are your fan(s) going to be?

Haven't worked the fans in yet. I want to build the console first (or at least a mock-up) to determine best airflow, but based on the design, I should (I hope) have a mulitiude of fan push/pull locations. I'm actually thinking of using a vent system that would allow me to draw off the heat into the cab in the winter, and vent it out of the cab in the summer. Just one of those 'I wonder' ideas.

How's the FM reception on that card?

silverbackman, I also have a 91 silverado and your project looks quite ambitious. Do you just plan on extending the raised area of the dash over about 15 inches, because it looks like you're putting the monitor in the middle of the dash? If so, what would you put in the area where the HVAC and OEM radio were?
