What resolution is the skin you're using on the Audi screen?

It's 1024x768 but it runs at 800x600 just fine.

I'll post it up when it's finished so anyone can use the artwork.

And a true artwork it is indeed. I'd love to give it a try.
Tell me, can this be controlled with a Powermate? I mean, does the menu items get highlighted when you have the pointer on them?

They do. The main controls can be used with a powermate as it's mostly controlled with my remote which has a mousewheel. Skipping tracks might not be that easy as the remote I use has play, pause, skip buttons on it.
I guess you could sort that with the press-and-turn function of the powermate.

Keep an eye on the Media Engine forum here for me posting it.

I'm working on a new MMI skin for xlobby now which I think will be much more advanced.

    A8 Install

    Hi all, my 1st post!

I have an A8 4.2 L (petrol) 04 model (pre-last silly Audi shield grille!) and I've also done an audio upgrade to mine (Rilot, I've PM'd you!). I wanted to have MP3 functionality (with iPod eventually) with DVD movie capability as well as DAB and DVB-T ultimatley. I also wanted to maintain the stock amplification so that Sat-Nav speech could still be heard over the MP3 / DVD / DAB etc. Security was also a factor, as was space. I didn't want to install much in the boot owing to Infra-red related issues and so I opted for the JVC KD-AVX1. This ISO Head-Unit plays DVD movies, MP3's and had the benefit of allowing the user to upgrade to DAB, DVB-T and a full iPod interface as well.

As my car already had the Audi TV / Bose / SAT-Nav, I did want to install a Mac Mini (which I don't have) but thought it unnecessary because I'd be installing it for MP3 and AVI playing and money wise, I couldn't justify the expense and the PSU related costs and fitting in the boot etc. maybe one day!) - so the JVC fitted the bill.

There are the pics from when I was installing it (some months ago) at the link 've posted. I have finally sorted out the "TV Muting" as I call it - or the safety system that mutes the screen when the car is driven away. This was done professionally without affecting the CAN Bus or any of the on-board systems (I've heard of some nightmare stories on this subject!!) and that works 100%.

Only thing I want to do now is to order the JVC KV-DT2000 (which is currently over-priced in my opinion) and also the JVC iPod interface (JVC KS-PD100 which is cheap enough at £50) but here is what I have currently:

JVC KD-AVX1 (RDS FM, MP3, DVD playing on iternal 3" and A8 LCD)
JVC KT-DB1000 (DAB Tuner) - with pass through for additional interfaces)
    JVC HAL1 DAB Aerial

    Still need!
    JVC KV-DT2000
    JVC KS-PD100
Mac Mini Eventually would be fantastic (Dual Core version would be nicem, though doubt what the acreen would look like on the interal LCD!?)

The AV out of the AVX1 (head-unit) is connected to the "AV1" input of the Car's stock tuner in the boot. I've also connected the AVX1's video and audio input up to the boot as well (in readiness - to allow gaming or a n other Device to be connected to it so that I don't have to remove the head-unit again). I had planned to connect the iPod colour I had up to it but instead thought I'd upgrade my ipod to the iPod Video one when I have the funds and then I can play music and TV / videos easily without having to burn DVD discs.

I would like to catch up with you Rilot - to ask a few questions about your install (A8 specific). Could maybe share ideas!

These are the pictures I took when I was installing - they're not very good I'm afraid and they don't do it justice but I plan the improve them. I just used my small digital camera but I will use my D60 at some point and refresh them.

Most of all, I didn't want anything showing, and with the exception of the glass mount DAB aerial - have suceeded!

    Cheers,
    TJ

The real reason was that despite - as you say - having all the kit, it can't play MP3s and only has a 6 disk CD changer. Due to the electrical design of the car (fibre-optic MOST bus) adding things such as a phat-box or Ice-Link for ipod is currently impossible.

I just can't leave cars alone. I've never been able to leave a car stock for more than 50 miles after taking delivery.
    My install was:
    * 1995. Audi A8 4.2 Tiptronic Quattro
    * HP Omnibook 6100 (PIII Mobile 1.3 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 60 GB HDD, DVD-ROM) with a/b/g WiFi & 3COM PCMCIA bluetooth adapter + docking station fixed and hard-wired in the trunk (I'm using that PC in my office dayly too - therefore the docking station)
    * Windows XP-Pro, AutoRoute 2002, AutoRoute 2004, JS Latvia 3 (GPS map & route planner / voice & 3D-isual driving directions software), Windows Media Player , MS Office 2003 Pro etc.
    * Innovatek 7" (16:9) VGA + USB Touchscreen attached to the dash using a pivot to position the touchscreen facing the driver or co-driver as needed
    * full-function mini keyboard wired in the glove compartment (just in case the touchscreen is not enough)
    * USB GPS receiver fixed on the trunk lid under OEM style GPS antenna cover wired to the docking station as all other peripherials
    * remote on/off button of the docking station put in the "pocket" at the left side along the steering column
    * OEM laptop car charger powered through ignition key ACC position and wired to the docking station
    * audio from the docking station routed through the in-dash Pioneer HU
    * Sony-Ericsson bluetooth-enabled cell phone
    _____________________________________
This was also added to the car (offtopic, of course)
    * 8-sensor parking radar (display unit attached to the dash)
    * Escort Passport SRX radar detector/shifter with display placed in the gauge cluster
    * front seat heaters (originallythe car was not equipped with any)
    * bi-Xenon projectors built in the original headlights instead of the original hallogen low-beam projectors

Can you tell me a little more about the programming capabilites of the remote? I looked on logitechs website but it doesnt really specify for the remote, just the keyboard. Can you program the remote to open different programs, etc.?
