Continuing with my carputer installation, here is how I mounted the external DVD rom drive into the center console where the hand brake is. Currently, the center console has been removed, so just imagine the handbrake there.
no, i don't use dvd/cd rom drives at all. i just an HD to store music. if i want to transfer music to my carcomp i use my usb flash drive.

For the fitting piece that the dvd drive sits in, i used the existing plastic pocket, and just turned it upside down, then i cut a nice hole for the dvd drive to fit through. The drive can sway back and forth and is held in place by gravity. This will eliminate (i hope) some of the bumps of the road and protect it from shock.
looking really good so far, can't wait to see what you come up with...
Wow!That will look absolutly fanatastic in the car!

Civiputer: Dont have one anymore, but here is what is used to be!
man, i just finished my install this weekend and i have to say that i'm upset with the monitor and it's location. i have to chastize honda for making the factory stereo at the worst possible location and angle.
you will find out about what im talking about soon enough nameeri. it's tough to see the monitor without glare from the sun and also it's just a bad angle. you're going to be looking at it from the side and all the images are inverted.
im currently in the process of figuring out a way in which i can change the angle altogether; which may ultimately mean that i will have to hack away at that trim further to offset it at a different angle. it looks so good and oem, but it's not fscking utilitarian.
Doh! That sucks man. Ill be installing this coming saturday. Hmmm...do you have tint on your car? Maybe some nice dark tint on the rear windshield is in order as well as the sides?

yeah man, i have nice dark tint. I have 20s on all 4 in the front and 5% in the back.
The tint won't help you, it's actually the angle (it's tilted slightly upwards and to the right) so that what you see is an inverted colored image of the screen. The xenarcs are designed to be viewed directly, head-on.
you can try this yourself, just try to place the monitor where it would be in the car and try viewing it from the driver's seat position.it's upsetting man. the install is so sweet, but i can't see the monitor clearly! what a shame.
I fabricated my amp rack today. Basically its just a big piece of wood, carpeted that will bolt into the sheet metal behind the rear seats. The civic has split folding rear seats. The problem with the back of the seats is that there is nothing solid to screw amps into. There is a tubular steel frame covered in cloth, not the best mounting solution. This whole piece will cover the opening. Im hoping that it fits with the carpeting, didnt test fit it with the carpeting on![]()
