I started this project about a week and a half ago. First, after consulting with my buddy about his carputer, i went out and selected the hardware. i have a VIA Epia PD10000, C3 1GHz CPU, 512 RAM, 80GB HD, all inside a TRAVLE c137 case with the M1 ATX smart power supply. So for the last week I've been tweaking the software. I got Road runner as the front end, using a slightly modified simplistiqu skin, along with Map monkey and destinator for the GPS. So far, works like a champ.
I started this weekend by mounting the monitor. Thought it would be a lot harder but it turned out to be allright.
Got the monitor installed into the dash. Man, this Xenarc 700TSV was almost a perfect fit. I had to do a little filing if the sides, but once done, it fits very nicely!
One week, and you are already up and running, wow!!!
But your install looks nice so far.
Can you show us a pic of the back of the dash to see how you mounted the xenarc?

2010 Nissan Altima - Coming Soon...
Sure, its a little hard to see from these pics but here is what I did.
1. I removed the back cover of the xenarc. From what my buddy told me, Xenarc's are extremely simple to take apart, and he was right about that. All i did was remove 6 screws and the rear cover came right off.
2. The opening on the stock honda console was just about the right size to begin with. All i had to do was file 4 small indentations into the sides of the xenarc front bezel, two on each side. These indentations, would allow the the mounting pieces where the large screws go to comfortable fit with the monitor in place.
3. Push the monitor in place after some filing and test fitting. The large metal retaining brace was able to mount back in place just like it was never even removed! That was it, literally took about 20 minutes of filing and fitting before i was happy with it. I thought I would have to take it to a professional to get it mounted but i got it fitted and it looks OEM!
I recently started my project on a 2005 civic, I started last night... looks nice so far...
I have a 2002 civic that i plan on doing soon, where is the PC going to be located??
Trying is the first step toward failure
I have an 05 Civic SI and the dashes are almost identical. I did mine a little differently though, it was a lot harder because I went with the cheaper 7" TView touchscreen. Yours looks great and has a factory look to it, Keep up the good work!
The PC will be located in the trunk, ill probably just have to use some "L" brackets and hang it from the rear deck. The civic has those lame tension wires for the trunk so Ill somehow have to avoid those. Im planning on using some rubber grommets to try and insulate the pc from vibrations as much as possible. The DVD drive will go right next to the drivers seat in the center console, next to the parking brake....Thats the plan anywaysOriginally Posted by canadapettit

nameeri,
can i suggest a purchase for you? I finished mounting my screen to my front bezel of my '05 civic hybrid with the aid of this trim (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWN%3AIT) that i purchased for $15.00. I simply cut out the middle divider and now it looks very OEM and factory.
I will post up some pictures tonight of my setup to let you see. im sure you'll be very pleased with the results once you use it.
It will get rid of that unsightly gap and make it pleasing to the eye and even more stock.
VERY nice install.
